That’s not a temperature. Maybe wind chill.

The Weather Network showing -50 in Edmonton tonight; -60 with windchill. Yikes.

Ya I'm going to try and go through Alberta home owners warranty. I've gone through the builder twice already and insisted 80k BTU is not big enough for a 2600sq ft two storey in Sherwood park.

I was working at WestJet when the Dreamliner came into the fleet and I remember hearing/learning that those planes really struggle to start the engines when temps drops below -20.

It pretty clearly says -50 with a windchill of -60.

I too am questioning the accuracy of that forecast as nobody else has it that low, but I do know how to read the difference between temperature and windchill in a Weather Network forecast.

I was just going to say this.

My $$’s are on missing attic insulation or busted furnace.

True, it's possible the furnace is a two stage, but for some reason isn't engaging the second phase.

So hell might freeze over? I was really looking forward to the Oilers missing the playoffs, but this is a dire situation!

Not only new builds. I was living in a 4-plex townhouse in Regal Terrace that, I would guess, would be an 80’s build. My heating bill was higher than I liked, so I decided to check how much insulation was in the attic. Poked my head up in the attic, there was insulation, but it was still in the bundles and not installed. I crawled up and laid out the insulation for my unit and the one next to me. I always wondered if the neighbour was home and heard me stomping around in the attic above their unit.

On a side note, I thought it was a serious security issue that I could gain access to their unit simply by going into the attic and lifting the attic hatch. They would have had easy access to my unit as well, but I was young and poor with very little worth stealing.

Running electric heaters in all the kids rooms and our electric fireplace on the main floor to try and keep it at a reasonable temp.

Also my fiancee has her bachelorette party tonight in Edmonton. Good luck and Godspeed to those girls lol

I might get checked out professionally to make sure the venting and or furnace is working properly/installed/suitable for the home.

If it's a new build and potentially still under warranty, I would get it looked at. 20 degrees isn't exactly warm and it shouldn't be a struggle for a modern furnace to achieve. CP Member EVERLAST is a top HVAC guy and furnace cleaner and I can't recommend him enough.

Minus 10 and bright sunshine in Vancouver today has me missing Alberta winter. My mood and energy are so much better than on the usual dark rainy wet coast day.

But then I see the forecast for Alberta the next few days... good luck gang!

It's not all bad. The quiet on the roads and outside, as well as the hunkering down in warmth that it's forced every one into. But it's not like this is something that would be tolerable for any length of time, especially if you must travel and do activities outside the home.

In the end, +30 undoubtedly pisses on this.
Wimp.

I went down to my utility room for the first time since I got cold because I had to do some laundry and it is freezing down there. It is an old school utility room and uninsulated and I'm pretty surprised everything is still working properly down there considering how cold it is. I'm glad we installed rubber/foam floor tiles or else I wouldn't be able to walk around without shoes down there. Maybe I should glue some of those R4/5 foam panels to the concrete walls next summer because putting up studs and real insulation seems like too much work.

The clear blue sky and sun in Calgary is glorious. I couldn’t care less if it’s -35 when I can sit in my office all morning basking in the toasty warm sun, long range views of full clear sky, watching the snow on the windowsills outside burn off.
