Yeah if you could turn pieces you get for Vladar, Backlund, and Hanifin ($12.5 cap space) into Sanheim, Konecny ($11.75M) and promote Wolf ($0.81) then that's probably pretty good cap utilization.

I think Hanifin and Backlund at 50% is too much for Nylander. Would retain on Hanifin and then move Backlund in a separate deal for picks.

The $9M to Lindholm is not a huge deal on the cap space compared to the $4.9M that Colemen is getting paid compared to what he provides.
They need to remove the third line $10M that Backlund and Coleman are getting paid and put that into top six star players.

Coleman is a good player that's contribution gets overlooked.
Strong defensively.
Skates well
Plays gritty
Strong PKer
Produces at 5v5 (62 5v5 points as a Flame ranks T-109 among NHL forwards, 1 behind $8.5M men in Horvat and Dubois)
He's exactly as advertised. I think I'd be open to moving him but I might wait a year because he could have value with a rising cap.

Been thinking about this lately regarding trades and changes to the team. It's a massive cultural and leadership change in this organization. With a new GM and new head coach, both first timers in their respective roles. Thats enough change where certain disgruntled players could completely change their mind about where they stand.
Just the talk about making things more fun, and building a plan around the players rather than having the players cater to a plan. It's surprisingly exciting as the summer goes on. This team could really surprise us all, and that will no doubt help with any potential trades.
I lean a little more optimistic generally speaking so this could easily go the other way, but the Connie effect seems very real.

Nylander has been one of the better Leafs in the playoffs for a while now.

Good players can often get moved for picks, but not this year.
The teams that would want Backlund, have no cap space.
The teams that have cap space aren't willing to deal futures for him.
Unless you want to wait for the deadline.

One of the reasons why I would be open to bringing Nylander to the Flames is that he is a good playoff performer. He has been roughly a PPG player in the last 4 consecutive playoffs, including 0.44GPG in the last 3 playoffs. He is always in the top 3 or 4 in playoff points for the Leafs - one of their most reliable playoff performers.

I feel like the real Willie Nylander and the Willie Nylander of are divided by the Rio Grande.

I can see it was worded a little weird but it was Hanifin full cap + Backlund is retained 50%

Considering the marching orders seem to be contend every year at all costs... I agree with this wholeheartedly. Not saying Backlund or Coleman, etc. are bad but gone are the days that this team can afford to pay that much for middle sixers or even 4th liners for " character " etc.
I think Conroy sees this to considering he completely nuked the aging 4th line for cheaper younger players. You can even argue Yegor is part of this line of thinking to. I would rather have an impact top line locked up that can provide game breaking offence rather than 4 even lines of 20 goal scorers with no game breakers making 5 to 7 mill. That's how you get high shot volume with low shooting %. It's better to have money tied up on actual game breakers and fill the roster with young hungry guys through the rest of the line up on cheap contracts. Give Huby his minutes he needs to play, Conroy said as much.

Couturier has had two back surgeries and he’s got 7 years (!!!) left.
Have fun with that, Philly.

How about a Philly deal that includes Noah Cates. Great fourth line center.

No leaf was on the ice for more goals against the Nylander this past playoffs. That includes all dmen who some played way more minutes

Cliff Fletcher used to talk a out this, getting good player through 2 and 3 for 1 deals.. I thi,I that would be an ideal way to balance out salary for both sides and gives the leafs some quality players in return.

Imagine had tree just gave Johnny what he wanted not lowballed him what would the flames look like now.. would chucky stayed ? I like tree but imo with all the draft picks he passed away and the dumb deals he made set this team back many years. This team is not winning anytime soon offering money to lindy who's foot is halfway out the door overpaying a guy like hooby doesn't make sense. Thanks tree you really f...ed this team good

All of sports fandom falls into varying degrees of column A: enjoyable, versus column B: waste of time.
I think one of the Flames’ higher ups watched Aladdin one too many times and took “have some of column A, try ALL of column B” too closely to heart.
