We should be looking to trade Gaudreau because he doesn't help us win when it matters most. He has a total of 4 points at 5v5 in 30 career playoff games. That's terrible.
Add in the fact that even if he does re-sign in two years he will be looking for a Panarin deal and that is too much for a winger.
Also his NTC kicks in after the coming season so they are best to move him now.

The NTC point is valid and well understood.
On the other hand you'd be a terrible GM because you're looking to "get rid of" a player. Treliving is ridiculously famous for patience and playing close to the vest. Plenty of teams are inquiring about Gaudreau right now and salivating at the thought. IF theres an offer you can't refuse, you take it. You don't phone around telling GMs you want to get rid of this guy. The guy is exciting to watch and sells tickets. 23 teams didn't make it to the 2nd round.
I like Gaudreau. I have the jersey he wore when he got his first hat trick. I hope he stays a Flame for his whole career. Unfortunately, I don't think he will. From talking to someone in his camp, I would be greatly surprised if he remains in Calgary long term. There are three ideal teams from his point of view. Playoff success would go a long way in keeping him though.
Not related to the Flames.
Tampa has looked very good in the playoffs without Stamkos; however, they currently only have $1.2 million in cap space, and look to be heading toward a cap crunch, having to re-sign Cirelli and Sergachev, plus another few roster players (assuming they let Maroon and Shattenkirk walk).
I know Stamkos has a NMC, but I wonder if they maybe try to explore trading him.

Wrong age, injury prone, disappears during the playoffs. Large cap hit.
Not saying I wouldn’t want him on my team but I’d prefer to sign Hall for free than the player Stamkos is now.

Konecky has 0 goals, 4 assists in 13 playoff games. Why would you trade for another weal
k play off performer since you're "getting rid of Johnny" because he doesn't show up in the play offs??? Just asking....
He’s really young and hasn’t had too many shots at the POs. Plus his skill set is, IMO, more in keeping with today’s NHL.
I am in favour of trading Gaudreau and Monahan, but it has to be with the idea of acquiring a number 1 center or a number 1 defenseman, which would most likely come in the form of picks and prospects.
As much as I like Konecny, going after a winger is the wrong course of action for this team.

Yeah, I'm definitely not advocating for the Flames to try for Stamkos. I was just wondering if Tampa might look to move him.

Yep yep yep!
Only reason to deal players in their prime like this is to restructure and address foundational issues. Any other “hockey trades” that don’t address the issues is just shuffling deck chairs.
If you believe in this group, then double down and add to it. Otherwise bang off some trades that help you correct structural issues with the foundation.

But does he understand that he needs to be at his best when it matters in order for that to be a thing? Like, he’s a big part of that happening here or not... it’s not just going to happen around him or something.

I’m seeing a lot of Gaudreau for Konecny chatter from Flyers fans on Twitter. Interesting. I want the Flames to use Johnny to improve up the middle of the ice: RHD and C. But I do like Konecny.
He would fit in well with the ultra-competitive players the Flames have been drafting.
He is signed for 5 more years at 5.5.
He is right handed.
He is closer to 23 than 24.
Do you think the trade would be 1 for 1, or do ppl think the Flyers might add a sweetener?
Ex: Philippe Myers or a 2nd round draft pick.

From a flames perspective I would hope it’s not 1 for 1. Johnny can still be a 90-100 pt player, especially if he has a strong centre. Flames shouldn’t settle low, would definitely not do 1 for 1. There needs to be an add, especially if the Flyers view Johnny as the guy to help get them over the hump

lol
I know it's just fans, but a month ago Konecny was "untouchable" and "worth more than Gaudreau because of age and contract".
Then the guy plays 13 playoff games with no goals and only 4 points and all of a sudden opinions are a-changin' haha.
Trade Gaudreau in a deal around Konecny, or another great offer — the best one you can get.
Trade Monahan for the best deal full of young talent you can get.
Don't limit your scope by focusing on trading for only centres. This draft is FULL of great centres. There are so many good ones available. Take Connor Zary or Hendrix Lapierre at 19 and there you go, there's your promising centre. If you're not so good next year, so be it, you get a better draft pick and another terrific prospect. Nobody's saying you have to make the playoffs next year if it makes you a better team in the long run. I'd love to see this Flames team develop a totally stacked farm system to complement an array of young impact-makers already established on forward and defense (Tkachuk, Lindholm, Dube, Bennett, Valimaki, Andersson, Hanifin).

Tkachuk - Couturier - Lindholm
Hall - Monahan - Konecny
Dube - Backlund - Mangiapane
Lucic - Ryan - Rieder/Phillips/Gawdin
I like it too much so it must be ridiculously in our favor. I am also unsure what sort of add we could make to make it more interesting for the flyers, they don't really need d prospects at all so kylington isn't of interest.
