The league is banning the Sox from signing amateur international players for the next year and voiding the contracts of five players signed in 2015, according to a baseball source.
I heard about Ortiz talking about Fernandez, but not EE. Since Ortiz is king of the MLB right now and is doing his retirement tour, I doubt anything comes from it.

As a Jays fan i couldn't give a rats ass. The Jays have a really good team as long as they're willing to shell out i don't see why EE won't re-sign. If Boston makes a better offer I'd assume he'd go there but comments from Ortiz mid season? I don't think they're going to make a lick of difference.
But regardless I'm going to enjoy crushing their post season dreams in the second half.

Baseball is back today! It's funny how a few days off feels like forever when it comes to baseball, but we see 2 or 3 day layoffs in hockey all the time.
Anyway, they start start a weekend series in Oakland (38-51) tonight. Starters are a bit up in the air, but should be Stroman v Mengden tonight. After that it's a bunch of question marks.
I found an interesting site regarding predictions for the MLB that is pretty comprehensive. It gives winning percentages for each game based on team ELO, making adjustments for starting pitching as well as home field advantage and travel factors. Pretty interesting if you are into that kind of thing. The site has Jays ranked 2nd overall in the league in ELO, which seems promising.
EDIT: For those wondering about ELO, it is based off how chess performance was ranked. It's essentially an ongoing adjustment of a teams performance based on their past performances and their likeliness to win based on past ELO projections. Pretty interesting stuff:

And that's with Bautista and Estrada out. Wonder if we'd be first with those 2 in.
I think Estrada would affect it because he would then be built into the pitching adjustment score, but I don't think Bautista would move the needle because position players don't seem to have a separate impact on ELO. The only way his impact is felt is the Jays continuing to win once we comes back to the line.
I'm still trying to understand it myself though, so I could be way off.
