Tony Bennett died today at the age of 96. Tony, if you are reading CP today, thank you for the music, especially when played after a SF Giants win.

But didn't he do that? He was arguably our best forward during the playoffs for his entire tenure here, 4 different years in the post-season IIRC, and those performances were seemingly forgotten over each off-season.

Just bizarre to think back on.

To me, he'll always be 80 year old Tony Bennett.

All he had to do when he saw himself on the 4th line the next year was to have taken the pen from the coach and written the damn line up himself

And he just simply didn’t do that

They were quickly forgotten in pre-season and the first few games of the next regular season, because he'd inevitably revert to being a bonehead.

He can be an awesome player if he plays a balls to the wall style... unfortunately that style is not sustainable without suffering constant injury.

Similar to Ferland although he has avoided the head injuries so far which is great.

Losing Bennett is fine. The better what if scenario I like to imagine is if the Oilers would have selected him. They would have busted another top 5 pick and we would have had Draisaitl. Maybe Fox decides to sign seeing that stacked line up. That would have been quite the roster.

I think the Flames take Virtanen if the Oil take Bennett.

Nah, I recall there was a consensus top 4 in that draft (and then the next tier started at 5) so we were going to get whoever was left. I suppose they could have traded down, but to have the highest draft pick in team history only to trade it away? Seems unlikely…

I'd have to go back and look.

Personally, thought they would trade down for Nylander. That was the time when the Flames lacking RHS forwards was a thing.

The legend is growing. Montour’s kid dressed up as Bennett

Do we have some bull#### Paul Byron thread we can bump too? Surely there's a Brett Hull one somewhere in the archives. Or at least Doug Gilmour. Let's flood the front page with this ####.

Did Montour's kid dress up, or are we ignoring the awful truth?

Sam Bennett is the father.

I was curious how Bennett is doing so far and see that he's actually been injured all season, but he did make it on the current road trip.
