I wasn't attacking the Flames or their management, nobody needed defending. It was not a drive by.
The Flames have missed out on key pieces multiple times during this core's run, sometimes it was their fault, sometimes it was not their fault.
It'll be good news if and when they actually acquire him.

I feel more optimistic now than I have at any point. That doesn’t mean much but when you look at who is likely interested, who is likely out, and where Buffalo would want to send him things line up nicely for Calgary.
We are officially in the Endgame now where the Flames have been seriously linked to the player so it is either getting him which may result in the bump of the long dormant “Brad Fricken Treliving” thread or the crushing feeling of him going elsewhere which surely will bump the “Treliving must go” thread

Doubtful unless ownership signs off on sewering the season and missing out on possibly 3 home playoff dates.

He agreed it would be good and asks the hockey gods to please let us get him (not miss out on him) because it's happened in the past.
That's more begging than insulting...because as Flames fans, that's what we've been reduced to, begging.
now that's a drive by!

I mentioned this previously when it seemed like there may be movement, but I would hope that Tre doesn't now make a huge change on what we had offered. Hopefully this shows a certain "goodwill" (for what it's worth) in acquiring him and not now looking to screw Buffalo over as this goes on. Certainly, given the fact that things are further along now and him playing this season is up in the air, certain clauses to ensure we don't get screwed would be important but I would hate to learn the deal fell through because pieces we were comfortable with moving initially changed simply because Buffalo is under more pressure.
Likely not the best business strategy but heck, that's why I'm just a fan hoping for a big move and not an actual GM.

I really think the year or conditions of the 1st round pick is a sticking point. I can't imagine the Flames are willing to struggle a year ( and they would while waiting for Jack) while getting rid of the 2022 pick.
Does Buffalo want a top ten protected 2022 pick?

If it is Monahan+futures you don’t think the Flames can weather that storm for 55 games before Eichel is ready? Do you think it has to be Tkachuk going the other way?

I land on this too. I think that Lindholm-Backlund-Dube can put the team in playoff contention, and then Eichel pushes the team over for the last 20 games.
I'm a Mony fan, but I don't think that he is the 'make or break' player that a Markstrom or Gaudreau is.

I really can't see the Flames moving Monahan for an injured Eichel.
Unless, maybe they think Dube can fill in at C until Eichel returns?
Lindholm
Backlund
Dube
Gawdin/Richardson
Hmm, maybe that would be the plan?

Whatever deal gets this done may include more than Monahan from the roster. If I was them I would be asking for one of Dube or Mangiapane as well as a boatload of picks, Zary, and Pelletier. As much as Flames fans want to get Eichel the price is going to be extremely steep and probably hurt the organization as much as it helps.

Dube's numbers are much better at C FWIW. Lewis has also played C IIRC, so he could be a 4th line option.

If it was 3 months ago, they could take mangiapane or Dube as well… but now, the value for eichel has diminished because he is going to miss the majority of a season that the team trading for him is likely going to give up a first round pick at the end of it.

Yup, Mangiapane in particular would be a hard piece to give up, but at the same time, do you die on that hill? I doubt it.

Load up Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk.
The other three lines play defense and smash bodies.
That’ll be enough to hang around until the prince that was promised makes his appearance.

While Monny may not waive to go to Buffalo, hand Buffalo may not even want him, e's certainly no sticking point from the Flames perspective

Buffalo is 1.5 hours from home for Mony, and it's only for a couple of years until UFA. I like the possibility of a third team facilitating as well. He might look at Ottawa as breaking through next year with all of their young players.
He is a character guy with skill. It would check a lot of boxes for Ottawa.

Yes. There are a couple factors he might think are worth it. He would be out of the spotlight with less pressure, he'd have a chance to build up stats via increased ice time for his next contract, there's less travel, and FWIW it's an hour and a half from his home town. And maybe he just doesn't care much about where he plays, but his agent wanted a MNTC so he got one.
There are also numerous reasons he wouldn't do it.

Just me, but I don’t think that’s the deal - if there ever is one.
Buffalo won’t want anyone good now, and Calgary doesn’t have to sort out the cap til the summer.
My guess is it will be all picks/prospects and the Flames would Kucherov Eichel to deal with the cap. They can unload someone to recoup picks/prospects after the season.
