I think this team misses the playoffs. The first half of the season would be very difficult without Eichel, Tkachuk, and Mangiapane. Then it would take time for Eichel to get back to speed. Regardless, I count 4 top 6 forwards to start the season, 5 if you count Backlund.

That team absolutely misses the playoffs. Good chance that Flames 2022 1st round pick would be the most valuable asset at the end of the season.

Unless the Flames won the lotto I think it would a 15 to 10 pick assuming Markstrom isn't garbage.

I'm all for getting Eichel. But I'm curious how they can get to the cap floor if they were to move him. They're already way under, with Dahlin, Mittelstadt, and Jokihrju still left to sign.
Even if those 3 sign for a total of $15M, they would just barely reach the floor. Take away Eichel's $10M and I don't see how it even works. They seem to want picks and prospects but they'll have to take back a decent amount of salary just to reach the floor.
Maybe I'm missing something but this must complicate the whole scenario for Buffalo.

This team is finishing bottom 5 without Tkachuk, Mangiapane, and Giordano, with only Parayko and Coleman being significant additions. It's looking more likely that Eichel misses the entire season rehabbing from surgery unless he's traded tomorrow.

I'm assuming they get a roster player or two in return.

Zadorov is a good player...still I don't do that Tkachuk trade now. What is the point of trading for picks now? If the season falls apart that is when you do those kinda deals at the deadline

I think the Pacific is so bad that they can tread water and end up in the same spot but I am also of the opinion that Tkachuk is the only piece missing that really hurts. Gio and Mangiapane aren't the difference between a bottom 5 pick and 10 to 15. Markstrom isn't a tire fire and I still think that pick is the 10-15 range. If they were in a different division I'd agree more with a bottom 5.

It says on Brisson’s Wikipedia page that he engineered the 3-way Duchene trade between Colorado, Nashville, and Ottawa. I’m hoping that works in the Flames favour who might be looking at a 3-way deal.

I'm all for Eichel, but I'd be very apprehensive about trading Mangiapane. He's just entering his prime and IMO has that Brad Marchand type star upside. If the goal is a championship, you want to have both players, plus others filling out your forward core.

The only trade scenario that makes sense to me is one that involves Monahan going back with picks, prospects and maybe Dube so that you can still field a roster capable of challenging top teams. The Sabres aren't moving him without taking back a contract either and they know it.
Even if you add Eichel, without Backlund/Mangiapane or both, I don't see this roster being strong enough to get it done. If you add Eichel without losing either player, this is a very strong forward group.

Gaudreau, Lindholm, Mangiapane are forwards I would try to keep in an Eichel deal. Those three plus Eichel, Coleman and one of Monahan or Tkachuk would be a really good top six that blends skill, two-way play, and grit. I wouldn’t call Mangiapane untouchable (no one is) but I think he’s going to be an important player for where the Flames want their team culture to be, plus his story is very similar to Gio’s. This season, him and Coleman are going to do a lot of the dirty work and will keep their linemates honest when it comes to work ethic and being hard to play against. I doubt wanting to keep Mangiapane would be a deal-breaker anyways, I think Buffalo will look at the numbers Tkachuk and Monahan have put up and covet them more as flippable assets. They also need to reach the cap floor and these two have much higher cap hits than Mangiapane.
Even without Eichel and one of Monahan or Tkachuk, I think the Flames can hold their own for a few months and stay in playoff contention with a weak Pacific division, a healthy Markstrom, and a fully-prepared Sutter. And based off what Eichel’s doctor has said, there’s no way Eichel misses an entire season, I’d be shocked if that happened.

Mangiapane could very well be our best player this season.

After watching Mangiapane at the World's, I'd be inclined to agree. Kid is a stud.

Brisson has a reputation of getting trades for his players that want trades, so this is potentially big news.

I think this could get the wheels turning but I also think it could hinder Calgary’s chances of getting eichel - I’m assuming he would rather go somewhere like NY or Anaheim. If that’s the case, I doubt his new agent would spearhead setting up a trade to send him somewhere that he would not prefer.
At the same time, Calgary might be a place he could have some interest in… with his friend hanifin here as well as a few other skilled Americans in Gaudreau and tkachuk.
