Free Speech! Remember when asshats said it was all about free speech? He has monetized a neo-nazi account and has upped the advertising on it from major retail brands and the US government. Totally reputable and on the up and up.

I honestly loved twitter as a great compiler of news. I rarely interacted on it and never read the replies anyways. But even now it seems that tweets just don't show up. Use to get hundreds of tweets and hour now it seems like there are only a dozen or so. Either engagement has completely dropped off or tweets are just going into the ether.

I just checked and the app just updated to X on my phone too.
It is a trivial change after all the real downgrades, deterioration and decline of Twitter since the takeover. But for me the X is the straw that breaks the camel's back.
I just deleted the app.

Everytime I load a Twitter profile and scroll (my main way to keep up to date on the war in Ukraine) there's 2 tweets per ad and it stops my scrolling on each ad. Borderline unusable

The app logo on my phone looks like something from bloatware automatically included on the phone that you never use.

It’s the Kijiji of social media. The Kijiji app is so sensitive that if you happen to briefly touch an ad while trying to quickly scroll the for sale stuff, it takes you out of the app and loads up webpage for the advertiser.

Funny to see the dumbasses don't really know how to replace the term 'tweet' on their own page, the banner may be 'X' but it still has a big blue 'Tweet" button because you really cant type in 'X's' it just gibberish, it needs a word for the action

I'm still there because despite its trajectory, most of my follows are still there tweeting as usual. It's the best major social media app for instant news, and with NFL training camps underway, I'm glued to the updates. If reporters, comedians, etc I follow start leaving en masse, that would change things.
I'm also being a little stubborn with it. I've been a heavy twitter user since 2009, I'm not ending that just because some nerd with a massive ego bought it. Not letting him win that easily.

it's still my number one resource for sports news. Football, soccer, hockey - if you put together a TL of reliable journalists, it's just a solid way to be up to date as a fan. If Space Karen keeps ####ing it up, I'll leave, but as long as it's somewhat usable, I'd prefer to stay out of convenience.

I haven’t deleted my account, but I’ve changed my display name to indicate I’m inactive, I’ve locked it, and I’ve ceased logging into twitter. Maintaining an account there is just feeding sickening people.
