This has been Putin's line for a while now. People found it cute when he was riding around on horses and staging fake hockey games. Now that he's invading a European country, it's getting a lot more attention.

It's really quite bizarre. Putin is heralding himself as the global champion of human rights, but also outright attacking racial, transgender, sexuality, religious, etc.. minority groups for decaying the traditional Russian family. Putin's main political rhetoric has been based around this idea of the traditional Russian family, which is really just a dog whistle for attacking minorities. It's a similar frame of mind to bigoted religious groups who think they are being attacked because society wants them to stop acting bigoted towards non-heterosexuals.

The British armed forces terms are OBUA (operations in built-up areas), FIBUA (fighting in built-up areas), or sometimes (colloquially) FISH (fighting in someone's house), or FISH and CHIPS (fighting in someone's house and causing havoc in people's streets).

There was a time they might have had that handy, maybe there still do. Germany has a large US military presence.

The Javelins have a 90%+ kill rate against Russian armor in Ukraine so far. That'd put a sizable dent in Russia's tank force.

Looking at that image, I put the odds of that being accidental as pretty small, given all the green space around. The fact Russian media was claiming it was a military base reduces the odds of that considerably. This is some seriously evil ####.

I also think this is madness, this shouldn't be happening in 2022. At what point does Putin call out the West and the US for aiding the Ukraine? I wonder if this whole thing isn't going to escalate even more because what is really the endgame here? Especially when the Russians are losing.

Must be a lot going on behind the scenes to try and defuse the situation but with the US and other countries sending military aid it can't be going well.

I think that levelling a Russian town, which is full of innocent russians (no different than the ukranians bombed in the theatre), is going a little bit far.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that the Russian people, and many of the Russian soldiers are victims of Putin here as well.
