To be fair, he's stated this on multiple occasions haha

Does anyone know how Darryl changed the conditioning of the team? I am sure it is more than bag skating them.

Presumably the teams strength and conditioning coach is involved, or was that person fired and a new coach brought in?

I also laughed when he almost missed the interview as he was helping a neighbor. How many other pro sports coaches are doing that?

I would guess he told the athletic trainers to get the players in shape during the off season or they're looking for new jobs. Told the players to get in shape in the off season or they're going to see a lot of grumpy Darryl.

He needs to have Kylington as a guest and call it "O.K. Boomer".

Not too shocking I guess.

Brunt is an all-timer.

So good at everything he took on, and that list is a very long one.

Happy trails Steve!

The off season conditioning protocol, as well as nutrition, was dramatically improved, with Darryl at the helm.

You lose conditioning during the season. The schedule is relentless.

The key is building a optimum base in the off season and eating, resting ( when available) , and maintenance, during the season.

Possibly regular 2 hour+ cycling or 1.5 hour jogging multiple times per week to build aerobic capacity plus other items I would expect.

Seriously doubt endurance running is part of any NHL program. Really hard on joints and body in general.

I'm a big Boomer fan and can't wait to see what he's got cooking. The morning show wasn't always great, lots of redundant filler that sometimes got painful. I believe though, that if he's going the podcast route, he'll absolutely thrive with the sportsnet/censoring leash cut. Boom knows what appeals to Calgarian sports fans. If fart jokes and candy brackets get old, which I doubt will be a thing in this format anyway, you can always fast forward. Hopefully some of the old cast like Warrener, Pinder, etc, even Deforest, play at least a supporting part.

Absolutely looking forward to this!!

Likely lowballed at the expiry of his last contract. That seems to be what they are doing right now. What Rogers and Bell are doing to the industry is a disgrace.

Thrive in what way? I like boomer but but I don’t see how a podcast is going to be successful. Unless it’s just secondary income.

5 days a week wasn’t successful on a radio platform. Not sure losing the “rein” on him will change anything.

Popularity and doing something he's good at. I imagine he has enough contacts/experience in the business to know he's not going to be retiring off of podcast income. IF this is even what he's got planned.

Without getting too personal about the guy, it's fairly common knowledge his wife has a pretty decent gig. Worrying about bringing home the bacon likely isn't too much concern. I imagine doing something along these lines keeps him out of trouble doing something he probably likes, and not having to start the day at 3am. Just my opinion.
