Say what you will, but Kassian is without a doubt better than Garnet Hathaway at the same role.

No he isn't. Not even close. Hathaway throws good clean hits, Kassian throws dirty hits and usually at the worst time for his team as he heads to the penalty box. Kassian might have a better shot but do you really want a Matt Cooke type player on this roster who is undisciplined?

Kassian isn’t playing regular shifts on the oilers. On the oilers. Deadmonton. The bad team up north.

I was really dumb. We were playing a lot of Dungeons and Dragons back then and I was playing a rogue and tried to lift a magical amulet off a sleeping dragon.
Rolled a f'n one.

Calgary's Potential Goaltender Cap Space:

If the Flames move out Frolík & Stone there'll be a TON of cap space for a goalie next year.
2019-20:
Gaudreau 6,75 Monahan 6,375 Czarnik 1,25
Tkachuk 7,500 Lindholm 4,85 Neal 5,75
Bennett 2,015 Backlund 5,35 Ryan 3,125
Dubé ,778 Jankowski 1,675 Foo ,900
Mangiapane ,715
Giordano 6,75 Brodie 4,65
Hanifin 4,95 Hamonic 3,857
Välimäki ,894 Andersson ,755
Kylington ,730
Gillies ,750
Salary Cap $82,000,000
Cap Hit $71,871,708
Buyouts $1,500,000
Bonuses $747,500
Cap Space $10,128,292
Hathaway, Prout, Smith are UFA next year.
Rittich remains RFA.
Creating cap space does not necessarily mean only Frolík & Stone ($7,800,000) have to be traded with no salary coming back.
Eventually one if not both of Brodie & Hamonic ($8,500,000) are future trade chips that will be moved to make room for Välimäki and/or Andersson in the top 4 D.

He mentions a connection between the Flyers and Mike Smith. Doesn’t make sense unless the Flames acquire a goalie elsewhere. Wouldn’t want Elliott back or Neuvirth either.
I don’t really see the Flames looking to make a trade for any position other than goaltending.

Taking a while to get to 5000

On that note Philadelphia does have some decisions to make soon. Neuvirth, Elliott, Pickard all up with the team and with Neuvirth starting yesterday all 3 getting starts. Speaking from spectator experience, 3 goalies doesn't work for most teams.

Still not a great trade partner for the Flames seeing they need to send a Smith out to bring one in.

Totally agree. I'm just curious to see what they choose to do. Who they move, who they keep. How they go about it.

Kassian is an upgrade on Hathaway, I'd totally make that trade. Oil would need to retain salary to make it cap neutral.

There's zero chance Edmonton trades Kassian to the Flames, regardless of who or what is involved.

3-way deal:
Calgary aquires: Schneider
Philadelphia aquires: Smith
NJ acquires: Philly goalie ++
Philly will still have to sort out their 3-headed monster but maybe they just waive Pickard if they add a new guy to the mix..
Could be risky for the Flames as we don't know how Schneider will do after hip surgery but it's just an idea that could work out handsomely if he returns to play the way he did before he hurt his hip a couple seasons ago.

If I'm the Flames, I'm making a serious case to the Islanders for Lehner and Nick Leddy. Those are two guys who I seriously think could fix this team's problems.

As of right now there are a lot of quality goaltenders going into free agency next year.

The bigger part of that post that I had in mind when writing it was Nick Leddy, for what it's worth. He's the type of defenseman that this team sorely needs.

I think both teams need a Dman who is a little more responsible in his own end. Leddy is a terrific player but his defense, at least last year, was unbelievably bad. What was he, like -40?

Brodie and Leddy are pretty much the same player. Maybe Leddy > Brodie but they play the same kind of game.

Again, we are going to have to wait until next year to find a legit goalie, unless the Avs are willing to give us Grubauer or Varlamov.
