Losing 7 spots, even 15-22 is definitely bad for a rebuilding team, even if you want to ignore the fact that we would indeed have 2 1st round picks, for some reason.
I don't think anyone has defended the trade in discussing the impacts.

There is no spinning. The trade is done and the GM who did it is no longer here. Conroy has done nothing to try and keep the Flame competitive.

I wonder what Pinto would cost. Could you get him for a 2nd?

Certainly stumbling in Ottawa.

3 points in 20 games.

There's a buy low candidate. I feel like they'd be more interested in players for 'now' rather than picks though.

Could be a good spot for Raz with Zub's injury?

To OTT: Rasmus Andersson
To CGY: Shane Pinto, 2025 or 2026 1st Round Pick (preferably 2026), 2025 2nd Round Pick

I'd be into that, and it fits Craig's 'now and future' approach, and gets him his age appropriate Centre

I look at it as smart planning too. Hey young guys on your ELC - perform well, we have room to pay you without having to trade anyone. It allows the team to build up, instead of playing a game of salary cap jenga where you have to take away pieces in order to put someone else up top.

If we acquire Pinto we would have the perfect spokes person for Jersey/Helmet sponsor!

ESPN says there is tradebuzz around Mason McTavish. Something the Flames should be all over.

https://www.espn.com/nhl/insider/sto...tanen-marchand

Weekes also heard trade buzz around another foundational player: McTavish, the 21-year-old Ducks center who is in the final season of his rookie contract ahead of restricted free agency. The No. 3 draft pick in 2021 has just two goals and eight assists in 20 games for Anaheim, missing a chunk of time due to an upper-body injury.

He'd be a great add, but I feel like the ask would be tough.

It's hard to access what would be fair value for him.

I imagine that the Ducks would be looking for a similar age/pedigree player, which would be Coronato.
Unless they're interested in something similar to the Dach deal, which would mean something like a 1st + 2nd, which I would definitely do.

Yeah if he’s on the block, we’d better back up the truck. He’s a heart and soul player.

I’m sorry but if takes Zary or Coronato plus a pick- do it.

The cost would be astronomical but we should be all over that. I wouldnt be surprised if Chicago gets in on him if he is available. There was a lot of chatter around Bedards draft about his relationship with McTavish.

McTavish is the best player out of everyone that has been rumored as being available. By far, and this includes the assumption that Cozens is available.

Thats a tough trade with Anaheim being they are in a rebuilding stage like the Flames. They aren't going to be interested in veteran players or late 1st round draft picks for McTavish. They are going to want another young player with really high upside, not sure have the assets for a McTavish deal.

Yup.

Exactly the type of player that Conroy would covet, and if there is any kind of truth to it, he will be all over.

Just about everything on the table to get him as well.

The only pieces I wouldn't make available in a McTavish deal are Wolf, Parekh, and the 26/27 1sts. Would hate to give up Zary or Coronato but man, I dunno ... that's one hell of a target.

I don't get what the motivation would be from Anaheim. What's going on there that high potential, high picked players falter and fall out of favor so quickly?

Coronato+ seems like the only legit suggestions tbh. We can spare a winger for a center. But can't help but think it's a strange situation in Anaheim.

They don't need D. Dostal is pretty good in net. They could use a strong wing prospect to play with Carlsson and Gauthier.

I don't know how much better McTavish is than Coronato, but I like snagging a canadian. I don't have any real sense on how much the + would need to be...
