Huby is the best passer in the league, Weegar looked really bad last year. But he'll command a big contract just based on his stats. Florida selling high on him. This is an amazing trade lol!

I only brought it up because I remembered that overwhelmingly of posters loved the trade. No one crapped on it except Ashasx who was Rhett44 in 2022 hating everything Flames. and he was effing right! hahahahah jesus

Yes, there are some complete homers on this site that feel the need to defend everything the Flames do, no need to mention names.

Huby was coming off a 115 point season,.was still prime aged and was a consistent top 5 scoring threat in thr NHL for 5+ seasons when the trade happened. Weegar was a proven top 4 defenseman, coming off a 40 point season. These guys were huge parts of a very successful team. Also got a prospect and a 1st round pick all for a guy who publicly said he wasn't extending in Calgary.

Trade looked great on paper, didn't work out on the ice. Thats the way it goes sometimes.

I also think we have to parse between those that liked the trade and the re-signings v. those that liked the trade but didn't like the new contract(s).

And actually at the time I said I wish we would rebuild, but also said the trade itself was pretty much about the best value you could get if you are going all in for a cup run.

It is obvious now they should have started a rebuild, but most people I know were happy with the return at the time.
