Sportsnet article on 5 likely destinations for Kadri.
Has Calgary as #2 most likely and says the Flames have made an offer but not the big money Kadri thinks he wants to cash in on after his career season last year.
So sounds like Brad is singing the same tune as the majority of us which is good to hear.
Kadri would be nice, great fit for the middle but Brads not going the big 7X7+ that Kadri’s camp is trying to set him up on retirement wise. Calgary probably a strong offer but not the term he wants.

Because we lost Gaudreau for nothing and this would be acquiring an asset for nothing. Get some more scoring without having to give up any draft picks or prospects from our pool.

I could see Brad maxing out at 7 x 5y with a Kadri offer.
Obviously the hope is that COL can't find the change to put forward a palatable offer to his camp and he's forced to look at the next best destination/contract.

Kadri is a better player now than both Neal and Brouwer were at the time they signed their contracts with the Flames

I'd imagine the Flames will have a little more shine now than the last time he took a scan over here. He would be all but assured to get playtime in prominent positions (2C) and situations (PP1), as long as he doesn't have Sutter issues.
If he's set on staying west, don't see why you don't take a look at the other western conference division champion over the plethora of questionable teams that struggled, or just "weren't great" last season.
Minny and St Louis don't have the dough to make it happen. Edmonton spent theirs on Citizen Kane.

Just my guess but I just don't think he wants to live in the city of Calgary and it isn't about opportunity in the lineup or the quality of the team. When the Flames first tried to get him, the team was strong and he didn't want to leave Toronto. And then recently, said no once becoming a UFA. Even now, with what appears to be an even smaller subset of teams able to fit him, he's still holding out for Colorado (likely for less money than the Flames are offering), which I get.

It's well documented that he nixed yyc the first time just out of wanting to stay in T.O.
Then he realized he was getting shipped regardless and was sent to COL.
Don't think it was Calgary hate. Just preference to not leave.
As for recently we were in the midst of gaudreau leaving and Tkachuk being shopped, so from afar at that time it looks like a team getting significantly worse.
If he entertains Calgary it obviously won't be his first choice, but even he will recognize that we made an organizational "save" and should be a competitive team in the pacific.

Nazem Kadri is nothing like Troy Brouwer or James Neal.
There is certainly an argument to be made about paying free agency prices on a contract that will take a player (likely) until they’re 38, but that’s a difference conversation.
|
Brouwer you are right…but Neal had perfectly fine underlying numbers in Vegas and Nashville the two prior years, the numbers didn’t indicate the drop off was going to be so harsh at all.
I actually think much like the Neal signing you’d have to be very careful with Kadri once he signs this last big deal.
Potentially worth the risk still.

Treliving has to find another good top 6 scoring forward. Expect both Mangipane and Toffoli to do the bulk of the scoring is asking for trouble
That’s why Kadri signing is a big discussion. He is the only FA left
The other option is to trade one of the top dmen. Hanifin or Weegar.
Whatever, I expect the Flames to go all in one more time on Sutter’s last year

Pretty sure Huberdeau will help with scoring

Yup considering many had career years and then lost 2 top scorers, Huberdeau alone is not close to be enough.

Well it’s still not quite August so there’s lots of time left before the roster is solidified; I think Mangi is poised to take a step here and I’m hoping they spot him in tkachuks spot on the off wing top line.
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Two snipers and an elite top of the league passer seems like a great recipe to me.
Keep in mind too that’ll we’ll have a full year of Toff and I have absolutely no worries about replacing the departed scoring of Gaudreau/Tkachuk. I think the checking hockey and systems Darryl runs were great proponents to the 100 point years of those two as well which has me excited about what Huby and players like Pelletier will bring to the table under the same direction. So much to be excited for this season; I never would have believed that on the 13th - 20th lol!
