We're getting our years worth of Antonov's in one week! Too bad the company shipping all this material couldn't just charter the bigger 225 a couple of times.
They are shipping HDPE high pressure fiber reinforced composite Flexpipe line pipe for oil and gas gathering, made by Shawcor here in Calgary and being sold to Saudi Arabia (at least one Calgary company is enjoying the current market).

Decided to drive by the airport today to get a closer look at one of the 124s. It's a pretty cool bird!

Emirates Announces Dubai-Auckland. Will become new World's Longest Flight
Current record holder for world's longest flight (measured in nautical miles) is Qantas operating Sydney-Dallas Fort Worth (8578nm) with the A380.
On March 1st, Emirates will take that title away when the first Dubai-Auckland flight (8824nm) takes flight operated by a 777-200LR.
More detail and analysis of these ultra long haul flights here:
http://airwaysnews.com/blog/2016/03/...longest-route/
A block time ("butt in the seat time") of 17 hours and 15 minutes. Funny enough it is actually second in this ranking, with Emirates own Dubai-Panama City flight having a block time of 17 hours and 35 minutes (although the distance flown is shorter at 8588nm).

It's about time people start pushing the 77L to its limit. Whalejet has no business operating the longest flight in the world.

WestJet talking with Boeing and Airbus about 767 Replacement
http://www.reuters.com/article/westj...-idUSL2N16900P
Quote:
WestJet Airlines Ltd has started talks with aircraft makers on replacements for its fleet of Boeing 767-300 planes, with delivery of the new planes expected by the end of this decade.
The Calgary-based airline is talking with Boeing Co and Airbus Group on options to replace the 767, an extended range aircraft that will serve Europe starting in May, Chief Executive Officer Gregg Saretsky told Reuters on Monday.
"At some point we will have to replace these 767s with next-generation widebody aircraft and we are talking with both Boeing and Airbus around the possibilities,"said Saretsky, adding the new planes would enter Westjet's fleet in 2019 or 2020.

Speculate away! Any chance that Airbus somehow lands this order?

You think they would switch to Airbus? I see that as more of a negotiating tactic...

Final flight of the first Boeing 727 today!
http://www.airlinereporter.com/2016/...-is-scheduled/
It has been restored and is being flown from Paine Field (KPAE) to Boeing Field (KBFI) in Seattle for the Museum of Flight there.
Departure is scheduled for 1130 MST. Not sure if it will show up on the flight tracker software though.

787 would have very little in common with the 737NG, so massive training/parts acquisition costs would be incurred regardless. If A330 (current or new engines) are available at the right price, WS has little incentive to stick with Boeing, keeping in mind they've made it clear that MAX will be the staple of the narrowbody fleet going forward.
