So who is Smith's Rod Love, who "handles" her and does he or she have any political/media/marketing brains?

Perhaps, but I don’t believe we should just throw in the towel. We have privatized all sorts of things that work from replacing sidewalks to building roads. Obviously some thing won’t work, but others might.

If privatizing sidewalk replacement and road building are the go-to examples of something that works, best to stay away.

You don't think that already is being done?

It may be no charge to you but it most certainly is not zero cost to you. But that’s going OT.

True, no charge to me personally but certainly a cost as a personal and business taxpayer.

Ya, I’m aware. I was merely pondering if we could trim some costs in places we haven’t tried. And just because something was tried here or in a different jurisdiction that failed, doesn’t mean it can’t be reworked or improved upon.

I’m not so sure. I would put myself in that orphan group, but gun to my head I probably vote for the NDP. It’s not my preference, but I’d vote for them ahead of Danielle Smith. I think it’s a moot point though. She’s already cratered her chances and it doesn’t look like she can recover.
That said, no way she calls the election in May. She’ll cling to power as long as possible, you’d think.

Morals and ethics aside, can she legally postpone an election date?

Yes, while Alberta has a law that says elections are every 4 years, the constitution states elections need to be held no more than 5 years. And the constitution wins, so election laws are largely unenforceable. But of course, as the party in power she can also repeal the election date laws.

I believe the Lt. Governor can specify another date that conforms with the Election Act but the Premier cannot change the date.

So should she push that button then May/24 would be etched in stone?

So we generally agree that pumping hundreds of millions into the system isn't necessarily the fix...but for some reason we get tunnel vision discussing ideas that could save tens of millions...to what end?
It's a much much bigger discussion, but the real meat of the issue is our expectations/medical ethics/liability. Especially related to end of life, but also 'frequent flyers' with dubious medical concerns using tons of resources. Any changes would take decades and be quickly politicized (see death panels), but even some baby steps in these areas could go a long way.
