First class is for plebs. Why not just take the private company jet? Or the private holiday jet? Or the private Sunday best jet?

JetBlue doesn't have first class does it? And couldn't Donald spring the jet for her to use?

What made me laugh is the guy who was ranting against Ivanka actually asks "Why is she on our flight? She should be flying private."

Also I think the guy was a former CP poster. "You're kicking me off for expressing my opinion?!!" That's what they all say.

Maybe Trump can get Prussian Blue to reunite for his inauguration.

Donald J. Trump

Based on the tremendous cost and cost overruns of the Lockheed Martin F-35, I have asked Boeing to price-out a comparable F-18 Super Hornet!
3:26 PM - 22 Dec 2016

That's almost like asking GM to price out a comparable Chevy Corvette... The Super Hornet isn't comparable to the F-35.

I mean no doubt the F-35 is a huge cost, but the time of deciding to do something different passed like 20 years ago. The F-35 is what it is and costs what it does because of the crazy requirements, it's supposed to replace the F-16 (nimble and light dogfighter) and the A-10 (flying tank that can take a pounding and still kill ground targets) and the AV-8B (look I can take off straight up!). Jack of all trades, master of none.

It's not a matter of the Super Hornet being almost as good as the F-35 or not, it's completely incapable of doing what the F-35 can do regardless of what you do to it.

To get a VTOL Super Hornet you'd need basically what the F-35 has, space for a lift fan, so you'd have to redesign it completely to fit that. To get the stealth capability you can't just paint it black, you have to redesign it completely.

So basically Trump wants a whole new fighter? And that's supposed to save money??

The last time the United States declared its nuclear weapons policy, in 2010, it required a year of deliberation and a fussed-over 64-page report to set it out. President-elect Donald J. Trump appears to have done so in only 140 characters, forcing analysts and foreign states to divine United States policy from a few brief words.

Whether Mr. Trump knows it or not, nuclear weapons policy has a meticulous language all its own, meant to signal clearly to allies and adversaries. But his words fall outside that language, creating several possible interpretations with a wide range of meanings and ramifications for the world — as well as an uncertainty that is itself destabilizing, analysts warn.

At least our PM is buying just a few Super Hornets and admits that there's still a need for a replacement, even if he is punting the issue forward rather than making a commitment.

To be fair, Canada is not engaged in an arms race with anyone nor trying to maintain technology superiority to project hegemony around the globe.

If Canada had any balls they would tell the US to stick the F-35 (the flying Yugo) and build their own jet. Re-ignite the Canadian aerospace industry and employ Canadians to to address Canadian interests.

This statement shows you know as much about fighter jets as Donald Trump.

I'm in the industry and for many reasons, fair and unfair, this is just not possible.

Weren't the blueprints for the F35 stolen by the Chinese?

I think what Trump is saying here is he's very disappointed in Eric for not being as good a huckster as he is by getting caught in pay to play without getting paid first, unlike dad (reminder: if these roaches were actually rich they could donate money to St. Jude's anytime they want)

You're right I don't know much about fighter jets except what I'm told by the guys I know in the chair force. Maybe you can educate me. Why couldn't Canada build its own fighter? We did it once before, why can't we do it again? Why should Canadians pay through the nose to buy a very flawed airframe? Why should Canadians look to the United States for technologies they should be able to build and market themselves?

We'd rather not spend 300 billion on R+D

And gain all those high skilled engineering and manufacturing jobs? Plus, doubt it would cost that much.

As it turns out, R&D for the F-35 was $750M.

Technically we could build a fighter. Starting an assembly line would not be that hard. We could even make a case for building our own F-35's under Lockheed's guidance. I actually think any high volume aircraft purchase we make should include local assembly and I don't believe that is beyond reason. 65 F-35's would be worth ramping up a production line. That is the easy part though.

R&D is expensive. The technology belongs to the U.S. manufacturers and they aren't giving it away. You could figure it all out, but who is going to fund it? We don't even have the stomach to pay fr the ready made product, which is actually a pretty damn good aircraft contrary to what the liberals are saying about it.

Stealth technology is a science, just because you can read about it on the net doesn't mean you can make it work.

Bombardier is billions in debt trying to build a fairly simple jetliner. They are way behind on delivery. Canadians don't want to help (rightfully so but that's a whole different discussion). And you propose we could fund a from scratch fighter jet program? R&D on the F-35, lets say the 750M is correct, is what an established company spent, using shared technology, and with government support.

I would LOVE for Canada to be a bigger player in this industry! Unfortunately that will never happen.

So the answer is partnering? Then do it! If Turkey can do it we should be able to as well. Since we are truly a defensive player in the market then maybe partner with Japan to get their 5th gen fighter jet built? Seems like something that could work.

I, too, lament the demise of the Avro Arrow.
