Anyone used a drywall lift? Doing a few 10 foot ceilings, debating renting vs buying a cheap one and selling after vs manpower.

I bought one for my garage. I wouldn't do a ceiling without it. Unless you know you can work fast, renting sucks. Have the freedom of not being rushed. Also great for walls for the second row, and you can do it all with one person. I sold mine for 40 less than I paid, with no hassle on Kijiji. I got it from Princess Auto.
It was this one, but wow, I paid $180 3-4 years ago. Maybe the shipping shortages drove the price up.

who would you hire to install a hood vent/ microwave hood vent? Our house has no venting at all so they would need to vent it out plus the install?

What's the going rate for 45 sg feet of tile / stone work these days.
Anyone got recommended installer ?
Thanks.

Why not paint it a porcelain white or something? That would modernize and clean it up without too much effort. Does the wife want it gone entirely?

I had it done by the same company who installed my natural gas line (we put in a gas stove). I had a roofing company install the goose neck vent in the roof for the duct to hook up to.

Make sure you get a vent with a screen on it. Keep the birds from building a nest.

I'm not sure why this would be a problem unless you just leave both running at the same time?
If you are going to put in a valve that only supplies one at a time, why wouldn't you just not turn both of them on at the same time?
I may be missing something here, but you seem to be overcomplicating this issue.

Yeah, the worst case scenario is you forgot, try to run both, but don’t get full output out of either. No worries if you simply just use one or the other at a time.

Can anyone recommend a good water softener service tech? Our house came with a Waterboss unit already installed and I noticed the water probably isn't as soft as it should be, and now the brine tank in the unit is full of water so I can't add anymore salt without causing a mess. Plumbing is one area that I refuse to DIY

When the tank fills with water the head gasket which is a 10$ rubber part in the unit head is worn out. You can order it online and replace in about 5 minutes.
Call the MFG and they will give you the part# and diagnose and walk you through it so you don't end up paying $150 for a site visit and overcharge and even suggestion of replacement.
There should be no brine in the tank. Also, the soft level can be controlled. Not familiar with your unit, but city of calgary should be around 21 level.

Anybody solve the problem where a door doesn’t close properly because the door latch hits the strike plate on the flat part instead of the rounded edge? This one door is getting frustrating because then I have to go back and turn the door handle to close it.

I’m confused I think - are you saying the door latch is in backwards? I think that is what I am reading. Take the door knob apart and turn around the latch?

I probably explained this poorly. So, it's an exterior door from the house to the the garage. When it closes though, the latch doesn't retract when it hits the strike. It just gets stuck and the door doesn't fully close, unless I turn the door handle and pull it closed. The latch isn't sticky or anything either.
Maybe the pics will help explain it better.

Smack the plate with a hammer to bend it toward the frame a bit more.

Does it retract when you push on it directly with your hand or is it stuck?

If I slam it, it will close (not ideal), but if I try to pull it when it’s just resting like in the pics, it doesn’t retract until I turn the handle.

That door looks pretty snug. And those strike plates are for a wider jamb. I think the proper fix is to shim the hinges to pull the door away from the jamb slightly but you might get away with bending the plate a bit. How big is the gap on the hinge side?
I suck at installing doors, my achilles heel. My nephew would probably shim that thing proper in 15 minutes.

If it’s a problem with the lever set and not that it’s dead hitting the plate then replace the lever. Maybe you can just replace the latch inside it?
