And this was when she was still just a teenager. She absolutely could have got 25+ Slams.

I've said it before in this thread but Monica Seles is the biggest what if in tennis for me. She was so dominant at such a young age with a game that wouldn't breakdown no matter the stage in the match, I think we would be talking about the most dominant athlete to dominate their sport. The whole goat debate between Roger, Rafa and Novak would have been dead, IMO. It would inevitably be "yeah, Roger/Rafa/Novak is great, but they're no Seles."

Men's and Women's tennis are not the same sport, the best you can do is for each to have its own goat. The only way you could say Seles is greater across the entire sport is if you legit think she could take on one of the Big 3, which she can't. That doesn't take anything away from the best in WTA history, it's just acknowledging that the comparison can't cross into ATP.

Apologies for my clunky writing. Of course, Seles would not be able to beat the big 3. The point I was really trying to make was, talking about goats in the men's gameb when they get to 20+ slams while we have a woman who (IMO) could have had 35 singles grand slams to her name seems... cute.

I like to think of how many slams Fed would have racked up if he played during a regular era instead of mostly with the top 2 players in history. but then it starts to drive me bananas and I just accept that's how sports is, sometimes (most of the time actually) your favorite just doesn't get the optimal path. Nadal fans could wonder what his total would be without all his serious injuries and foot condition. Djokovic fans could dream of a timeline where he isn't a bread kryptonite holy water wacko.
the what ifs for Seles go the other way too. Graf was still in her early 20's at the time and had enough runway to figure out how to change that matchup. if Capriati didn't run into (or start off with) all the personal issues then she could have taken a much bigger chunk of the pie from that era too.

Bianca is on court right now taking on Harmony Tan
Edit: Fine start as Bianca has two breaks with a hold of serve sandwiched in-between.

25 minutes is all it took for Bianca to send a Canadian bagel to Harmony Tan.

As we know, Bianca can never make it easy on herself and she's down a break early in set 2.
Edit: Ugh, multiple opportunities to get back on serve and Bianca can't close.

Bianca drops set 2 6-3 to Harmony Tan. That was not a good set of tennis, way too many unforced errors, there's being aggressive, but some of that was reckless aggression.

Great start to set 3 as Bianca zips out to a 3-love lead (one break of serve). Amazing what happens when you keep the ball in the court.
Edit: Bianca advances taking set 3 6-1. That was almost a carbon copy of the opening set, really good tennis from Bianca as she regrouped well after a pretty bad second set.

Zhizhen Zhang comes up with what has to be the choke of the year earlier today against Tim van Rijthoven.
He won the 1st two sets 6-3 7-6(4) over the Dutchman and then had a 5-1 lead in the 3rd set tiebreak and then just fell to pieces. Multiple horrific shanks of off sitters and would then eventually lose that tiebreak 11-9.
He then lost the last 2 sets 6-1 6-4. Jeezus.

I have no clue who Daria Snigur is, but she just eliminated Simona Halep in three sets.
