If we can make space (and I think it’s time to move on from Monahan and Lucic), maybe we can get Stastny on a short term deal. Neutral on Milano, he’s bounced around and not getting qualified is a red flag. There was that incident with AJ Greer so maybe not the best character guy. Rodrigues benefitted from increased minutes on Pens with Malkin out, don’t see him repeating those numbers.
If Stastny isn’t available, maybe a guy like Henrique would fit bill. Played well with mangiapane at worlds. Schmalz would be fantastic but probably too much to acquire. Still think Montreal might want to do something. Dvorak perhaps? And as a total wildcard, since Chicago is trading everyone, maybe a guy like Kurashev.

It's unfortunate that the Flames were unable to land Burakovsky. Perfect fit for the 2nd line if he had signed here.

The Flames need to get younger, especially in their bottom 6. Let's not sign more players already north of 30.
If we're going to sign someone else, I think Sonny Milano would be a good fit. I'm baffled that he didn't get a QO from Anaheim. I wonder if there is something to his game that pushed Anaheim away from re-signing him. But even then, I imagine Sutter could work his magic and get the most out of Milano.
Otherwise, I think it's time for the Flames to promote some of their prospects to fill up the botttom 6. I think Ruzicka and Pelletier are NHL-ready and deserve regular spots in the line-up (provided they earn those spots!). Maybe even Phillips will surprise in training camp and give the Flames some much needed speed and energy.

When a rebuilding team who is struggling to get to the cap floor doesn't qualify a 26 year old RFA who had 0.5 points per game it should tell you all you need to know.
Yet every season guys like this are available and fans beg for their team to sign them.

I think the knock on him is that he is too one-dimensional and not productive enough overall to make up for it.

Yes, I doubt the Flames would sign him, unless it’s minimum/tryout thing
He is like Phillips. May not be skilled enough for a scoring role and doesn’t have enough to contribute anywhere else.

I have read that but his underlying numbers aren't that bad. I recall him looking pretty good in one of the matchups against the Flames last season.

I suspect he made more in Russia than what he'd make as a Flame. And no, he's not in Russia now - he broke his contract because of the invasion. A good dude.

He is a good guy
I remembered he had some good games at the end but for a long time, he was just there. Not producing anything meaningful. Team struggled and changed had to be made.
But if Sutter really love him, he would still be here like Lewis lol

Yeah... but he was sheltered in terms of his zone starts (3OZ faceoffs for every DZ faceoff). He's never been counted on to move the puck north.

This may have already been discussed, but I think Jonathan Toews would be a good addition if we don't land Kadri.
We are OK on the wing, but C is where we need to improve.
Take him on for the full season, pay a little extra to Chicago to retain salary.
The contract expires at the end end of the year so that's not an issue.
I think he's better than what his stats show on a crap team in Chicago. Plus he'd had some health issues in the past that seem to be behind him. He could very well have a resurgence ala Eric Staal post-Carolina.
You know Darryl would love to have him on the team and would utilize him well.
If Monahan returns to form, that could be some great center depth.
Lindholm
Backlund
Toews
Monahan

Unless he wanted to be paid more than $700K. He signed pretty quickly in the KHL last season. I bet they told him what they'd sign him for and he went looking for more dough elsewhere.

Ha, I wish! I just don't see him waiving his NMC to play in Canada. Toews might though.
