I have sent over 6000 messages in one month and never been charged more for it.

The fine print on the Telus website does not show that there is any kind of limit to my messaging plan, outside of messages sent outside of the US/Canada.

Hmmmm...I've seen "unlimited" all over the place, but there was always fine print. Oh well, that's great for you guys then. I would never come near 2500 messages a month so not really an issue for me.

With Telus there are 250, 2500 and unlimited plans.

With Rogers, there is a plan "called" unlimited, but it's actually 2500...lol.

Heh. Well I won't rag on Rogers because Telus probably just tries to screw me over some other way.

Like for an example the lack of any service for my HSPA phone is Sask/Manitoba.

Yeah, who knows what their long term plan or strategy is, it’s all speculation.

With your step daughter and her friends, it would be interesting to see what would happen if two or three members of her social circle defected to another platform. I wonder if they are wedded to the app, or if the results the app facilitates are more important, and they would migrate to something cross-platform.

Edit: one other thing I find interesting is that BBM has suddenly become labeled a “killer app” - this is a fairly recent phenomenon. A few months ago there was a lot of noise being made in the BB camp about how BB’s were the savior of wireless bandwidth by virtue of being more efficient with data (which they are)...I wonder if some of this is grassroots marketing or BB fans trying to highlight the relevance of the BB platform (it is still highly relevant, obviously, but iPhone and Android sure get a lot more written about them these days)

Tough to say, but they all swear by the qwerty keyboard. None of them would even consider an on screen KB. When I asked about the new iPhone as well as the Android's, they all said not a chance. They love how they can type FAST on their BB's and they love their BBM. They also liked the fact that they knew when the message was delivered, as opposed to SMS where messages seem to just simply vanish from time to time.

Oh yeah...that’s definitely a big advantage...one that RIM has even discussed publicly as a key differentiator in the market.

Reception issues observed by new iPhone 4 owners, derided as the "Death Grip" by bloggers, appears to actually be a software issue that an iOS update is expected to resolve early next week.

iPhone 4 Sales Top 1.7 Million

CUPERTINO, California—June 28, 2010—Apple® today announced that it has sold over 1.7 million of its iPhone® 4 through Saturday, June 26, just three days after its launch on June 24.
1.7 million units in the first 3 days... crazy. If demand keeps up at this rate, it's going to make getting one here a real pain in the ass.

But something must be going on with the hardware (antenna). The software doesn't know if you are touching the antenna or not. Perhaps it's just grossly over estimating how much the signal is being effected.

It's possible the software could know if you are touching (or bridging) the antenna, at least in principle. I don't know what kind of hardware those antennas are hooked into though so I don't know if the phone could do it though.

I hate to continue the off-topic BB discussion, but I wanted to chime in on how BBM is a pretty big factor for people now. It's not like the BlackBerry is just used by business people. A friend of mine really likes the new iPhone but decided he's not going to get it simply because of BBM. He chats with everyone through it and finds it incredibly useful.

Personally, I don't even have a text message plan for my BlackBerry anymore thanks to BBM. I like how you can see someone typing a message, and messages are delivered nearly instantly. Text messages take quite a bit longer to arrive. It also allows you to send pictures easily, which is great since I find MMS so slow.

That being said, the Pearl Flip is a terrible phone and I regret getting it. I'm going to the Bold.

I used to hate the text messaging program on the Blackberry, but have since installed crunchSMS. It's a wonderful free program that gives threaded SMS, and can look remarkably like the iPhone's SMS program. In any case, it is much more friendly than the typical BB SMS application.

Hi!

Welcome to the iOS 4 megathread. Please feel free to talk about how much you and your friends love Blackberry Messenger and or your Android phone. It appears that it is not possible to create a new thread on Calgary Puck from an Android or Blackberry phone so please feel free to use any existing Apple thread you can find.

Like it or not, talking about Apple generates discussion. There isn't enough critical mass of interest for other things to get the level of discussion as you often get in Apple threads about other things.

...or you have a user who loves the product so much that in a thread where 400 posts are made...one guy has 70+ of those.

To be fair, I had an apple related portion in my post that lead to the derail.
