He could have said that he fully believed that his team has enough talent and persistence to win the game, and left out the shot at Canada fading through their games and Luongo looking shaky with the puck.

If he had said that we are good enough to win and are going to come out and play better than them, then yes it would have been confidence like Messier.
Instead he took cheap shots at the other team and implied that the US would win because of Canada's play. That is not confidence.

Do you even follow the thread? Some people called the goal against Canada a weak one and rightfully so. Who decided to turn it into a Flames vs Canucks thing by bringing up Kipper letting in a weaker one yesterday - Flames fans or Canucks fans?

Nope I would't say so.
If he said that they would soften up because of our hitting then maybe, but saying that our best chance is that the other team will play worse in the last period that isn't confidence at all.
