Has anyone been able to get their hands on the new Ommegang Game of Thrones beer?
I wouldn't normally be excited for a marketing crossover like this, but Ommegang has some really solid beer and I have been making a habit of lining up a craft beer for each episode so far.
Apparently Zyn is the only store that carries it in Alberta.

so there is a huge beer festival going on right now down at the BMO centre (tomorrow too) and I haven't seen it mentioned here on CP which surprised me!
wondering if anyone went today and what they thought
the chance to try all those beers from a barrel and not the bottle is gonna taste so much better - like its meant to be drunk...
link to beer list: http://calgarybeerfest.com/beer-list/
I saw the st.austell brewery (from my old neck of the woods) will be there to many of those brewers/beers mentioned in this thread

Our local brewery in Edgerton is there. If anyone goes stop by and give their beer a try. It's the Ribstone Creek Brewery.

I just posted a thread in the buy/sell/trade forum. I have 2 FREE entrance passes for BeerFest for today, and a ton of sampling tokens. Hate to see them go to waste.
I can't really remember, but I had a Whistler beer at Beerfest yesterday (I think that was their name) called Whisky Jack-something. (It was a darker beer, cause that's all I drink) and it was AMAZING.
Have to find out the name.

Whistler Beer was the brewer, and Whiskey Jack Ale was the beer.

I think it was ####ing amazing. I'll have to track some down and try it again to confirm. Pretty sure it was, though.

well I thought the beerfest was fantastic, such a mix of people really impressed me - meat heads next to men in elbow-padded suits with bow ties!!
the Edmonton brewer 'alley kat' was one of the best local beers (a lemon hop special FROM THE BARREL).
St.Austell had Tribute, still the best beer I've ever tried and loads of ciders (10% love) were about.
The funniest thing was the cup everyone got, not sure what I was expecting here but you had to be on a serious mission to get sozzled....

Just bought two bottles of it for the last episode on Sunday. It's a pretty solid Blonde ale, but nothing to get overly excited about. I got it more for the novelty of drinking it while watching GoT. I would say it's worth it for the avid fan, but don't worry about it otherwise.

I went to Beerfest 2 years ago with a buddy and he really liked a beer called MTL. Well he's having a baby shower this coming weekend and I thought, what better way to celebrate the birth of a baby than with beer? The problem is that I can't seem to find it here in Calgary, except for on tap at bars. Does anyone know where I can find some MTL in bottles? Any help would be appreciated!

Look it up on liquorconnect.com
Looks like twenty two places in Calgary have purchased it but you will want to phone them to make sure as it only displays stores that have ordered it, and not the actual stock of the stores.
Edit: way more than just two.

Dunkel, Pil or Hefe?
Oh, and the answer to your question is yes.

Sam Adams is the only large American brewery that is worth anything. I have it regularly because down here it's either that or Coors Lite* and I can't stomach that stuff.
*stupid American spelling of Light

I've found warsteiner to be the Fosters/Molson Canadian of German beers. Not my fave but would bang if offered.

Konig-Ludwig Hefe/weisse and Premium Verum (I think that's the name) are their Hefe and Pil respectively.
Good beers, the Pil in my mind better than the hefe, but I'm not particularly partial to the hefe's so to each his own.
Nice and bread-y/biscuit-y pale German Pilsner.
Edit: Whoops, here's the dunkel, one of my favourite styles of beer:

Was in Saskatoon for a short trip yesterday and needed to get my Paddock Wood fix, tried the Maibock for the first time, wow was it sure a dangerously drinkable beer. I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to Bocks, with the only other I've ever had being the Big Rock Helles Bock, but this one blew it out of the water and if it was available readily in Calgary I'm sure it could become one of my go to buys.

That paddock wood makes some really tasty beers. I will keep an eye out for their Maibock.
