Just because someone is using a gun that you only become available at lvl 40, doesn't make it immediately better than a low level gun that has attachments to it (ie a red dot sight)
My advice, find a weapon that you are really comfortable with, and keep using it. With every kill, it gets closer to unlocking an assortments of gadgets for it that will make things easier.
The game has a steep learning curve and it can be frustrating at first, but after awhile, you will learn the maps and where people tend to fight. You'll get better.

Yeah I was terrible for a while, but once you figure out the maps things become a tonne easier. I think I'm a level 45 or so now (but that's playing with my roommate) and I still roll with the UMP, and used the SCAR until I got the M16.
An easy way to get points even if you suck at killing guys is to shoot down UAV's, choppers, Harriers...UAV's are an incredibly easy 50 points, and the Harrier's super easy to take down too. However, it's way easier once you get the third rocket thing...not the Javelin but the one just before it I think.

The guns you unlock at higher levels aren't at all better, they're all different, and can all get you tons of kills. I use the FAMAS and don't bother with any other guns anymore.

The gun I'm using right now is the SCAR and M4. Is the TAR a really good gun? Although, the one I really want to use is the ACAR (I think it's called that anyways). Whenever I pick it up, I can always get decent kills and it shoots pretty fast.
It's just really annoying having to play so much to level up. What are some good Perks? I use Marathon, Stopping Power and either Commando or Steady Aim.
How come it takes me about 3 shots to knock down a Harrier or Helicopter? I only have the first rocket launcher but the time it takes me to lock on and fire, I'm either already shot from the Plane or from someone else. I essentially waste 5 or so lives trying to shoot it down. Also, where are these UAV's that fly around? The only things I ever see are Planes and Helicopters.

The ACR is pretty good, it has barely any recoil from what I remember.
For perks it depends, I don't like running around, so I don't use Lightweight or Marathon. I use Bling as my first perk because there are no other really good ones LOL. Stopping Power as the second, since it helps A LOT when you can kill someone with 3 shots rather than 5. Ninja as the third one because heartbeat sensors are annoying as ****, even though I use one, I hate getting killed by someone who uses it. Also I play Free For All mostly, so I don't really have to worry about UAVs and don't end up using Cold-Blooded. If you want to be super stealthy, and not have to worry about people knowing where you are, just use a silencer, heartbeat sensor, cold blooded, and ninja and your set LOL.

I've only been playing for about 7 hours (according to the Stats) and playing mostly Team Deathmatch. Is it unusual that I still haven't played the Terminal (airport) or Rust (very small refinery lot) maps yet?

The first rocket launcher is pretty weak on shooting down the air support. But I think you can get the stinger missile pretty quickly. As for perks I use Scavenger pro, Cold-Blooded pro and Ninja Pro. I can't remember at what levels they are unlocked at so not sure if you have it or not. Cold-blooded and Ninja will basically leave you undetectable until you are in front of them or have killed them. It really comes in handy shooting down all the air support quickly. The only part that sucks is if you are beside someone who doesn't have it on and you get killed because of it. But that doesn't happen often.

Just started playing this game last night. Very addictive, but a harsh reminder that I really suck at FPS games.

I can't seem to get the next rocket launcher. It really sucks when everytime I go outside I get mowed down by air support. Oh well, I'm loving the scar. I just found out what Bling does.
I finally figured out how to get the heart beat sensor I had to get kills with silencer. I just kept trying to use the holographic dot. Only bad thing now is that I have to give up my marathon.

Yeah it is usual. They recycle the same crap maps over and over when you play. For example, I have played Invasiom (I think that is what is called), a minimum of 3 times everytime I play, how ever, I haven't played Highrise in about 5 weeks. Afghan is my favorite map, but one night we played it 4 times, and didn't even play half the other maps. It sucks sometimes.

I think Terminal is my favorite map. You're missing out!
I hate how you can't pick your maps. When I played Counter-strike for a brief period I loved being able to just play the maps I liked.

That's another reason why it sucks that there are no dedicated servers on the PC version so you can choose your map by server, or know the rotation of a server, or ask an admin to change the map, or initiate a map vote, etc. The players have no control over the game they are in. You're always stuck with whatever you get by the roll of the dice.

The ACOG is way better than the dots, IMO. And I just can't play with the heart beat monitor for some reason. I always seem to go with the Scavenger pro, stopping power pro and commando pro as perks. Never run out of ammo and you can take guys down with a couple of shots if you use the M16A4. Hard to get used to but accurate at long and mid-range. Mix it with any shot gun for the close range stuff and you're good to go.

I like Terminal. If you wanna get a bunch of kills, go onto the roof of the building across from the plane. Every game I play, people are running down that hallway of glass, and you've got a couple good places to dodge bullets too.
Worst map by far is Favela. I hate it with a passion.

I tried for about 4-5 maps today using the ACOG. I find it so hard. When people run around I always lose them in the sights. Although, I'm really liking the Holographic sights. But wow, I just unlocked the heart beat sensor and this thing is freaking cheap/awesome. With this thing, I went from being near always the bottom to first place on one game, and 2-4th consistently.
I think I might go with savenger soon, although I really do like the stopping power and I might just die or pick up another gun.
I find a downfall with the shot gun is having to manually select it which takes about 2 seconds and by then I miswell have just shot the guy

Who else agrees with me when I say "Modern Warfare is a better online game than the sequel"?
Honestly, I still enjoy the game, but the first one is so much better than the sequel. The maps are better on the first game, the killstreaks are consistent, hardcore mode is better (IMO). Most importantly there is a LOT LOT LOT LESS bulls*** than MW2. MW2 is ridiculous with the amount of crap in the game. Dual-wielding shotguns is the stupidest idea ever (I use it all the time but I still hate it), dual-wielding in general is the stupidest thing they added to the game. It works in Halo, it DOES NOT work in MW2. The heartbeat sensor is another stupid addition.
I'll still play it, but man the first one is just better. At least Spec Op's is good.

I've been playing it for a couple nights now and am really enjoying it. I still suck, but now that I managed to grab the red dot sight for my m4 things are picking up. So far I like almost all the maps, but that's probably because I don't know them well enough to form a solid opinion. I'm looking forward to grabbing a heart beat sensor. I forgot just how addictive the RPG elements of the game can be. While they aren't my thing, this game really displays how some people can get lost in RPG type games.
I'm not huge on the killstreak actions. The seem a little unfair, but perhaps that's just because I suck at them or because I haven't started trying to shoot down any planes.

I'm still new to it (lvl 22 as of last night)
I think they have improved upon the customization of your load out from the first one. I don't usually play Hardcore mode so I can't comment on that. Overall, It is slightly harder than the first one, especially with things like dual wielding, heart beat sensor , and kill streaks. I think because of that, it does encourage people to camp, especially if they want to unlock some of the really cool but higher level kill streaks.
