The more I think about this, the more I'm convinced that Sliver actually just wants to go bear hunting, but doesn't understand that bear hunting is a thing.
He clearly wants to kill a bear. He's said as much.
Sliver, you do know that with a little bit of training and a few tests you're just allowed to do that right?
A spring bear tag is, like, 25 bucks.
There really isn't any need for you to reinvent the bear hunting wheel in the most convoluted way possible.

I looked up from my Switch2, because I take my gaming seriously.
How could you want to kill this cute dude, cleaning up the dandelions like a boss? Maybe we should deploy some in the city to clean up the parks from dandelions, dogs off leash, and fraidy cats(and I'm not referring to the four legged type).

I am trained. Self taught, but trained nonetheless.

That's a cute pic.
I don't want to kill a bear randomly (I know I used to want to see a bear cull in the mountains, but I've evolved from that position for the most part - was being genuine at the time). I want to defend myself if a bear approaches me with intent to attack.
But anyway, that's beside the point. I'm not advocating for walking around with a shotgun in Canmore because if I'm allowed then it would mean some random bozo would be allowed.
I just want to test some bear countermeasures that are consistent with current laws and that are better than pepper spray. Only on CP could you guys twist yourself into nerdy little pretzels trying to make that sound like a bad thing. Wonder what you guys would have said while the guy who invented bear spray was first musing about his invention?

I spoke to my pal at the zoo (I don’t really have a pal at the zoo) and their recommendation was to hike with fully loaded drawers. Not just one member, everyone in the group. The fresher the better. Apparently it’s great bear deterrent.

So shooting a bear in the face while hiking, is not, for the most part, how humans have dealt with bears for hundreds of years, as Sliver suggested.

Without fear, there is no bravery.
I'll take your words as a compliment. Thank you.

I'd want three drinks and to smoke a bowl first, though.

As it turns out there is a cocktail event after hours at the zoo on August 8th. Just saying...

Buffalo Berry Removal
If you hike into the areas where the berries aren't being removed, you should be able to find a bunch of bears to test your gear on. Be sure to livestream the testing.

Calling everyone a nerd because you're afraid and won't admit it is quite the projection.

What do you mean I won't admit I'm afraid of bears? I've admitted it a million times including - literally - six posts above yours on this very page.
I'm terrified of bears. I have nightmares about their hot breath right in my face. There is literally nothing scarier on earth to me than the thought of a bear attacking me or my family.
But yeah, there's no reason why these two things can't both be true: I'm scared of bears and you guys are being super nerdy for your reaction to me suggesting a noisemaker or strobe light to shoo them away.

You mean to Bear Biologist and Founder and Director of the Wind River Bear Institute, Carrie Hunt?
Probably...oh hey carrie, are you a frightened dweeb who crowd sourced your ideas on a hockey forum?

The best noise maker I have used to scare away bears is the noise of my truck engine, more effective than pots banging and women screaming. The bear and I both found the latter actions to be annoying but not frightening.

I'm afraid of bears. It's why I'm not big on hiking. I can think of so many better ways to die than being mauled by a brown bear. I'm fully aware that it's around maybe one bear attack a year but I have that kind of bad luck where I can't afford to push it.

I think there are tons of people like you, but these guys just have fun belittling people with a fear of bears.
It's just my luck I enjoy spending every minute I can in the mountains while also having a terrible fear of bears. If there was something or somewhere I enjoyed more, I'd love to never have to worry about a bear again.
