Oh come on, are you serious? I'm not much of a soccer fan, nor did I care who won this game. But from what I've seen of soccer, I can't imagine that would ever be let go without a red card if the guy fell or not. Zidane, by the way, scored France's only goal by falling down without really even being touched. It was a pretty hard head butt (he really put his body into it) and the guy obviously wasn't ready for it.

Why do you think Zidane and the France coach were applauding then???

Sure it deserved a red card, by the guy took a fall too. This was after he had Zidane in an arm lock.

Before Zidane's moment of madness I really wanted the French to win, not so afterwards. That was as obvious a sending off offense as there ever was one. What the heck was he thinking? It matters not about the obvious embelishment of the Italian.

I don't really like PK's to decide the thing but c'est la vie.

Congrats Italia.

Actually, it wasn't Zidane who drew the penalty kick, it was another French player, can't remember his name, who was also legitimately fouled in the penalty area in the second half.

Agreed though, that headbutt was vicious, I don't think the guy took a dive at all, I'm sure he was too shocked to do anything at all.

The Zidane incident is one of the strangest things i've ever seen in sports...world cup final, extra time, and out of nowhere he just headbutts the guy? What on earth was going on in his head. Pretty sad to see such a legendary player go out like that.

Me too. I've been ruiting for France through most of the tournament, but I changed my support after that. My complaint about Italy has always been that they play dirty, dive, whine etc. but today, they were clearly the better team in all of those reguards.

Congrats to Italy, shame on ZZ.

You must one tough SOB. That headbutt would knock over almost anyone. I can't believe you think he took a fall there.

Neutral going in, but was pulling for the French.
Indescribeable what Zidane did...after his fantastic goal, and his chance a few minutes earlier in e.t.

In all my soccer, rarely seen something so blatant.

At the same time, France was the better team. The second half, and extra time, France outperformed the Italians by a wide margin, and deserved a better fate, no matter what Zidane did.

Also have to say, very childish Italian team after the win.
Cutting a guys hair on the field? Putting on silly hats and jerseys on backwards when reciveing medals? Gatusso running around and diving wih no shorts on with guys kicking him in the rear?

Bordered on classless...you know what, if you're going to do that 'team unity' stuff, at least have the decency to do that after you've accepted the trophy.

Can you imagine that garbage going on in post game celebrations in any major sport? Bringing a chair out and cutting Ryan Smyth's hair after the 2002 gold medal...and Maltby sliding from the blue line to the red line with no pants while teammates kick him in the ass...before getting the gold.

An embarrasment to me as a soccer player to act like that and disrespect your opponent and your sport, really.

The French anouncer on that youtube clip is hilarious. He seems so shocked and dissapointed by ZZ's dumb display.

Apparently you missed Germany's epic display after beating Argentina.

One player pretended to roll an imaginary bowling ball at the rest of his team (who were all lined up in a straight line) who all got knocked over by the imaginary ball.

After seeing that I'm just disappointed Lanny didn't do the same thing after we won the Cup.

Congrats to Italy, would have liked to see a winner before penalties but a great tournament nevertheless.

Che cazzo... No time to read all the posts... Just checking on the hostel (got 9 spanish in the dorm... gotta make sure sh*t is under control) BUUUUUUTTTTTT.... I had to say hi!

ITALIA!!!!!

Eh, caught your post there, fotze. I musta missed that. Either way, germany played like men that game, and as far as tnights game goes, fraces goal was total bullpuckey. A big F-U to the ref for that one. And Italy won that game fair and square. No bs-ing about how they'd have lost if this or that... Italy deserved that win.

I'll post some circo massimo pics tomorrow.

ITALIA!

(btw, ****s gone crazy here)

(my indooredness has been [somewhat] justified above) (back to partaay)

I understand there are traditions in hockey and maybe I'm just used to seeing a trophy presented in such a fashion but...shouldn't you wait for the captain to pick the trophy up before you touch it?

They kept grabbing it out of one another's hands...excited I guess, but it was different. It wasn't something I'm used to seeing...

What a great football match, just a stellar final. France was fully outplaying Italy in the 2nd half and should have scored. Buffon stood up to that task.

Zidane...if that header would have beat Buffon it would have been the GREATEST way to go out. But then a few minutes later you make, what is perhaps, the most selfish move I have ever seen in professional sports. HEADBUTT A GUY IN THE CHEST WITH 5 MINUTES LEFT IN YOUR INTERNATIONAL CAREER?! What the hell were you thinking? I would LOVE to know what MAterazzi said to Zidane to make him go BALLISTIC like that...none the less....it was a GREAT match.

Today was the epitome of why I, and so many others, ask....why does ANYONE enjoy this "sport"?

Flopping like fish is a better way to describe this abberation of a game than anything else. It's absolutely sickening to watch grown athletes (men?) try and out do one another on who looks the most injured when its apparent to EVERYONE except the idiot officials that nothing happened.

What a frickin embarrasment of a sport...thank god its over and gone for 4 more years (on a world stage anyhow)....which is way too soon for another month of "acting like fools".

Feel free to dislike it of your own accord - realize that many people in other parts of the globe dislike say hockey for instance for the neanderthal punching each others heads in or baseball for the lack of athleticism of it's participants, basketball for the athlete's arrogance, and so on.

You can find something negative about any sport, if you personally do not enjoy the ebb and flow of it, the manner in which the drama plays itself out then try not to call it an embarrasment of a sport in a topic where alot of people who do are discussing it, try to imagine discussing a sport you like outside of hockey on here and someone coming in and calling it crappy because of it's shortcomings (which I can assure you every sport has given proper scrutiny) and your reaction before you do that again.

It sounds as if a racist slur may have been muttered, but I would like to think he should have shown more restraint.

Fine and dandy...except punches actually are real and actually hurt.

I understand the game of soccer/futball...just not the ridiculous theatrics that dominate the biggest tournament it holds. It's a complete and total embarrassment.

Quote:

Yep I can...but NOTHING that compares to the idiocy of the worlds "best" players acting like they met Vinnie the Chin on PCP, but in fact the "contact" that sends them sprawling like little girls is less than a minor shaving accident in most cases.

Quote:

Right...ebb and flow. "Any yellow card you can draw, I can draw better"!!

Quote:

Drama is right. As the World Turns hasn't seen as many great dramatic acting performances in 20 years as the 2006 World Cup provided.

Sorry...I didnt mean to hurt your feelings by saying its an embarrassment of a sport.....but if i did, you may want to roll around and act like you've been shot til someone comes by and tells you to get up or the "4 docs" bring that stretcher out!!

I, quite clearly, asked in my post why people consider this a sport...when, IN MY OPINION, its about as far from being such because of the actors that play the roles.

IMO it might as well be lumped in with the WWE and other "sports" of that ilk. Scripts can't be far behind, afterall, it is a "drama".

Those that like the game...all the power to you, but once more, I ask you....why do you consider it anything more than "sports entertainmant"?
