Julio who? We got Johnny Mac!! That was awsome to see, guy deserves it. 5 rbi's tonight almost accounted for half our runs. Wells is probablly back tommorow night and with Burnett on the mound we have a good chance to get that series win. 3 1/2 back of the WC

"We love Roy, we love Roy!"
Gotta love it when Halliday is pitching. And some weird aligment must have happened in the stars last night for Johnny Mac to get a grand slam, what's that, 2 homers in the last year?

The game last night was awesome. I have some pics on my camera that I could upload when I get home.
At our hotel alone there were 20-30 Jays fans heading to the game, and there were many also at Safeco. Our section itself was about 50/50 Canadians and our seats were in a small area of about 30 folks who were all pulling for the Jays. At one point in the big fifth inning, throughout the stadium there was a huge "Let's go Blue Jays" chant going that made me wonder if it was loud enough to hear on TV. Eventually the Mariners' fans got tired of it and started booing but we just chanted louder. It easily beat any cheering they had throughout the night.
Going again tonight and it seems AJ is still the starter. Here's hoping for another good one!

Great stat: of the last 21 times Halladay has started after a loss his record is 19-2

Reminds me of Kipper
Great to see the Jays chugging along...if they can only get over that final hump of the ChiSox and into the wildcard....

I don't understand all this talk of getting Lugo for League and McGowan or Marcum, in what world does this make sense. A rental for two of the Jays better young arms, and an average rental at that. I would way rather see them keep John at SS and the young arms - it's not like these are guys who are 4 years away either. If it was mortgaging the future for a good player like Tejada or Soriano I would buy it but Lugo sucks, he is old, average D and has never hit .300 in his entire career.

I remember going to games in the Kingdome in 91,92, & 93 and more than half the fans were Canadian. The one weekend they even did a Canada weekend promotion handing out beach towels with the Mariners logo and a Canadian flag on it. They brought in some dude to sing the national anthem and he started singing in French and was practically booed off the field. Major League Baseball is a lot more fun to watch live than it is on T.V though. Will have to try and get to Safeco one of these days as I've never seen a game in a proper out door ball park.

Lugo isn't bad. He is batting .310 this year, and batted .295 last year with 39 stolen bases. I'd be all for the Jays getting him, however the prices you listed would be a little high for me. One of those pitchers fine, but not two.

He's not brutal and is probably an upgrade at SS, but the .310 is a blip, he is sub 300 in every other season, add in his D which is not great and you wonder what you are paying so much for - a little speed in the lineup and an alright contact hitter in a 31 year old rental for the equivalent of two first rounders, way too much but I guess this is the seller's market I keep hearing about in MLB this season.

we don't need bats, we need pitching. Why would we be trading pitchers for another bat?

Well there doesn't seem to be any pitching out there so perhaps the strategy is just to out-mash other teams.

EVERYBODY needs more pitching. With Chacin coming back we are better off than most. I would prefer to stand pat and let the younger guys develop.
But the old addage about strength up the middle is tried and true, and right now our 2B/SS combo is serviceable, but can it be more than that? MacDonald is an excellent utility player, but at 31 is there any more chance for improvement?

I heard that the Pirates have offered Oliver Perez in a trade or two - he is awesome, I know he is 2-10 with a 6.something era but he has great stuff. If you look at his game log he is either losing 6 or 7 innning games where he gives up 2 or less ER or getting bombed for like 9 in an innning without getting pulled - I think his numbers are worse than he is because of their pen and offence. If they could somehow land him I think he would be head and shoulders above Janssen or Marcum as the number 4/5 guy - with a proper bullpen so he doesn't stay in for 6+ run innnings and run support I think he would be great.

Giving up League and/or Marcum isn't exactly a tragedy. That really doesn't hurt the pitching THIS year. But some extra offense would help the team right now.
However, this deal would look bad if the Jays miss out on the playoffs. It would hurt the team next year, as Lugo would be gone and nothing to show for it.

LOL.
I've always thought that there are players in the minors who could make an impact in the majors if they got regular playing, but that they are exceedingly rare. Although if the bench players are pushing the starters for ABs, it can't help but make them all better.
Hinske has really impressed me. Gibbons seems to have found a way to use him that allows him to play better. Or he likes playing the outfield - it sure is nice to see him laughing with Vernon after a diving grab.

White Sox lost today, and the BoSox are down 5-1 to Oakland. This is a big one tonight for the Jays.

Boston's loss is now offical so chance to gain ground on both the WC and the division. Hopefully AJ can stay hot, the Jays are good enough to unload on Moyer tonight
