Would it not be Gilbert going into the lineup?

Not a great return that’s for sure. No strong prospects or even a first rounder so leaves a lot to be desired for how good Tanev is (at least in the short term). Hopefully Gorbachev can find some Sputnik in his game.

This notion that Conroy is being tested or pushed around is dumb. Trades today aren’t made by a lone GM sitting with his feet on his desk and chewing a cigar. They’re analytical and collaborative, with a whole team of executives and experts crunching numbers and working out valuations. Emotions and macho posturing play little part.
|
Almost zero part actually. There’s 10 executives with 10 spreadsheets sitting around weighing 5,000 variables. There’s virtually no way that “reputation” or being pushed around come into play in this stuff unless Conroy did something rogue and completely ridiculous. Does it seem like he’s that type of guy?
You take your picks and move on, this is definitely the smart play here. And the thing is, not every trade needs or has to be some grand slam home run either. This isn’t NHL 24 where you can just keep adding widgets of value until a trade is accepted by a computer. Believe it or not, Dallas, too, has executives that understand hockey.

My concern is that guys whether teams used a 2nd round pick on him or not, players who project like him almost never make it to the show.
This is what Bader has to say about the prospect. The historical data doesn't predict good things.

Decent odds imo. A semi-struggling Oettinger this year is undoubtedly over the moon with them adding Tanev. Or if he isn't yet, he will be.

Please read sandman draft profile for this kid, he is really high on him.

Tanev had 10 points in his D+1 year in Ontario Junior A.

Well, I WAS high on him. I don't see the progression I was hoping for. Like I said though, I'm coming around on this trade.

I am not going to try and react too much to these Conroy trades. So far I didn’t like 2 of them and they turned out just fine. He is making the right moves for the future of the team.
In Conroy we trust.

Flames now with 7 picks (and counting) in and around the first 115 picks of this years draft.
(If I’ve mathed this correctly)

Grushnikov was picked #48 in 2021 based entirely off of his defensive attributes. He's never really put up numbers. And the thing is, the NHL has become so skewed towards the offensive defensemen, it might be good to have a few of these defensive defensemen lurking around.

He's still young, so anything is possible, but I think he'll be bottom pairing if he makes it, with some PK duty. Plenty of posters have pointed out that Tanev's stats weren't great between the ages of 18-20, though. Grush is a much better skater already than Tanev was when he was younger, so it's up to Grush.

That was before he was drafted. How has he progressed since then
