Build it in Calgary and he won't even have to drive. We should do that, for all the Slivers of the world, and leave the real outdoor communities for those that actually want to be outdoors.
Ya, shots fired.

You're out of your mind if you think that's who is coming to Banff, Jasper and Canmore. Yes the people who live there enjoy that stuff, but we're talking about tourists. Tourists to BNP are not taking their cramp-ons, kayaks, and mountain bikes from England, China, India, Germany, etc. in the plane to their postcard holiday in the Canadian rockies. Skis are about all people will bring...and most don't even do that.
People come to enjoy the vibe, the views and the hospitality.
Canmore people have no concept that the mountains can mean other things to other people. Their bubble is so fkn weird.

In the end, it is probably better for the environment to keep most people in the town centers than to encourage them to enjoy the back country.

Yeeahhhhh, you guys don't own Canmore. You know that, right?
And Banff is too full now. That's the problem. We need another town.

What if they build one of those mega skyscrapers right in the heart of Banff. Like 200-300 storeys tall. That would house a lot of hotel rooms. Everyone would have great views. Load up the bottom floors and top floors with all the restaurants, bars, stores and such that you need. Pretty much a mountain town, inside a skyscraper. The Asian tourists would feel at home.
Canmore can have one too.

I dont know exactly, but the prospect of sending a large group of cyclists on a one-way trip to the Badlands intrigues me...

What if we don't give them a choice. The Banff shuttle could drop the tourists at the east edge of town and tell them those bicycles are complimentary and it's just a relaxing scenic ride straight into Banff. Just follow the signs. Once you hit the dinosaur you know you're there.

Week nights are actually pretty nice out there and in banff for dining out.
Had some amazing spots almost to ourselves.
Driving out in the same 48 hour window as every one else results in exactly the experience you would expect.

Is there a lack of trailheads and hiking spots in Alberta? A major issue with opening up more is the environmental impact. You need to strike a balance between letting people enjoying and preserving nature. Even a basic trail can be pretty disruptive to many animals. Most animals will actively avoid going anywhere near trails. So if you have them crisscrossing everywhere your essentially caging the animals in.

Yeah, I agree, I think the idea is...they need 'The Town' and all of the amenities that come with it. Hotels, bars, restaurants, museums and various other things to do.
I dont envision that all of the hiking and biking trails are so clogged that the bikers are running into one another...they've probably got enough places to do their outdoor pursuits, thats not really the issue.

Citation needed. Animals move on hiking trails all the time, it's much easier for them. Sure, they probably avoid the highway of people at Larch season, but generally trails are used all the time by animals, big and small.
