In case anyone cares here is the Flames history of trades

https://www.capfriendly.com/trades/flames

It really becomes more clear looking at BT's tenure how many picks he bled for non impactful players.

Looking at the full list I certainly wouldn't say he was good at trades, and in hindsight most were average to poor

Mid-season trades are barely a thing in the NHL anymore. 90+ per cent of player movement happens in the offseason or the trade deadline. Those are the only times when teams have cap flexibility to make major moves.

Gaudreau? Fox? Andersson? Dube? Mangiapane? Wolf? Kylington? All later picks... I think it's pretty well established that the Flames have a had above average amateur scouting over the last decade +.

Are you kidding? All those players are undersize and or soft (not Andersson) and they never even made the playoffs.

I would look at his or posting history they have no clue.

We drafted stars in late rounds that's hard to do.

Hopefully we have a few more this draft.

Heard Trotz say he wants his scouts to take swings this year it's easy for him to find 4th liners he wants guys who can get you out of your seat.

Hopefully Conroy has the same vision b

Tre made some good choices but made some poor choices. I don't judge him on individual moves, I base his mediocrity on his whole body of work. This dissentower guy thinks when you thank a post or thread, it's an umbrella of thanks for everything.

Leafs probably recruited him, that’s why he quit the Flames.

But that’s what losers do, they attract losers.

Treliving inherited a decent team, by the time he is done, they would have nothing left except overpaid vets

Every single one of those players has made the playoffs. What are you, about as sharp as a marble?

My one gripe (well, one of I should say) about Treliving going to Toronto is how I'm hearing more from Toronto media about how he did such a good job with Tkachuk after beinng "backed into a corner."

Treliving backed himself into that corner though. No one ever mentions that.

He signed a 21 year old to a bridge contract after that kid had a break out career season.

He didn't back himself into any corners. The next two seasons Tkachuks production dipped, if Treliving had signed Tkachuk to some monstrous 8 year extension based off one near point per game season the same people whining now would have been whining for two years straight after Tkachuks production dipped. That bridge contract was a perfectly reasonable move at the time, but unfortunately COVID happened and it helped tip the scales for Tkachuk to want to leave Canada.

Everybody is always a genius when they look at things in hindsight to criticize someone else.

We're missing (and have discussed ad naseum) all the other deals he made that prevented him from signing Tkachuk to a longer term.

That whats bugging me when I listen to TSN or Sportsnet. He wasn't just some guy who pulled a rabbit out of his hat.

If both parties really wanted to get a long term deal done at the time they would have found a way to get it done. There is nothing wrong with a team pushing a bridge contract to see if a young player can repeat his most recent performance. There is risk either way you choose to go. It's just too bad that in this case it didn't work out long term.

The Flames scouting has been fairly solid. Especially considering where they're usually picking. They've come up with a lot of nice depth picks. Contrast that to the the Oilers, who only ever seem to hit on their top-5 picks.

And then got really ####ing lucky that Tkachuk values his image enough to have facilitated that.
