Yeah, but that really is a loophole that needs to be closed.

Great is a stretch when your save % is in the .800s

Jesus, this comes across like you are calling Bob a drama queen
No, man. A goalie like Bob is smart enough to know that situations happen
A goal can go in on a screen where he has not much chance. Doesn’t mean his team wasn’t good enough
It’s really not that complicated

Cap compliance in the playoffs would be great. It makes little sense to have a rule that keeps teams on a level playing field all season long but then goes away as soon as the stakes are raised and games matter most.
If teams have players like Stone that come back off LTIR, fine, but the roster iced on any given night should not have contracts that exceed the cap. Vegas should have to choose about who plays and who sits for them to have a roster on a level playing field with their opposition.

Why are you so damn defensive about the Panthers lol
"I played solid, they had a lot of great chances" after 4 goals and .800s goaltending?
I found that to be an interesting quote from a goalie so I posted it.
Relax guy

Maybe that wouldn’t be a bad thing. Thinking about all the draft picks the Flames have given up for rentals with minimal playoff success (except for 2004).

I almost have to force myself to watch this, give the beautiful weather outside.
I wish we could just do something like camps start Sept 1, season starts Sept 15, playoffs end May 30.
June-August is summer, man.

There's still going to be a rental market. Teams will just have to take into consideration they would have to sit some regulars out in the playoffs and replace them with cheap AHLers.
There's going to be teams too who legitimately have the cap space either because they have a bunch of cheap contracts or someone is on LTIR and won't be back for the rest of the season.

The correct answer is 0. For all of Tkachuks dirty plays from the clip in that post, Tkachuk got 0 minutes. I guess answering that would kind of kill your narrative though.

Didn't Vegas tell Oiler fans that the team on the ice that beat them was cap compliant? (I haven't done the math but they were missing Kessel, Broissoit, Quick)

Bennett was really stupid. Tkachuk was trying to start a ruckus, but then Bennett took it too far. Tkachuk already glove punched a guy in the scrum, then Bennett comes over well after the moment passes and does it again.

I don't know. If it was, good. That's the way it should be. I wonder if both teams are icing cap compliant rosters in these finals? Hopefully so.

Agree 100%.
The preseason is way too long.
By mid October fans are plutzing to start the season and by the end of May no one cares any longer other than die hard fans and fans of the teams in the Finals.
Some things are just so obvious it’s ridiculous.

Some "advanced stats" for the two rosters dressing for tonight's game.
"Vegas' depth"
# of players playing tonight with cap hit of $5M or higher
Vegas: 9
Florida: 5

Yeah, that's a pretty substantial difference. I'm glad they beat the Oilers, but I can certainly cheer against that being the kind of team that wins it all.

I do think it's a loophole that the NHL needs to close. Your dressed roster for any game shouldn't be able to exclude the cap.
However the NHL also has allowed this, and actually promotes it. The whole idea of "cap banking" is created to allow teams to be over the cap come the playoffs.
Us as fans look at the cap as a total out of $82M but it's not actually that way...because cap allocation and banking exists.
Really the only reason Florida is so low is because they didn't think they would even be in this position, were more sellers than buyers at the deadline, and didn't make any moves.
Last year was probably the opposite where Florida's actual active contracts would have been above the cap with the pieces they added.

What would be a reasonable max percentage to be over the cap in the playoffs? 10%?
The issue is having an injured star player get healthy but he literally can't play because of the cap. Is that what you want in the playoffs?
Sure, it will encourage teams to try and game the system to max out that 10%, but it's better than the complete free-for-all that currently exists.

It makes no difference to the comparuson but I'd take out IR from those totals.
