Didn't the new Jets recover their IP from the Coyotes?

OTOH, I don't think the Thrashers ever took anything back from us?

They could at least player in an arena capable of holding more than 500 people with an agreement to upgrade/build a new one. Unlike Phoenix.

They've recently come to an agreement to renovate the old arena (which seems to be why the Governor is pumping this up), and there doesn't seem to be any appetite to build a new one. There's no way the NHL would put a team into a 50 year-old arena that was too small 25 years ago -- with an even smaller capacity now, renovations or not.

Of all the cities that have been mentioned, Hartford is probably the only one that's below Quebec City on the priority list.

This tool shows the population within a certain radius of a city:

https://www.freemaptools.com/find-population.htm

Hartford may be a "small" city, but 2.8 Million people live within 60 km. The Eastern seaboard is population dense. 5.6 Million within 100 km of Hartford.

Within 60 km:

Hartford = 2.8 Million
SLC = 2.2 Million
Austin = 2.0 Million
Milwaukee = 2.0 Million
KC = 2.1 Million
Houston = 6.1 Million
Portland = 2.4 Million
Cleveland = 2.7 Million
San Diego = 5.0 Million (some of that in Mexico)
Memphis = 1.3 Million

New arena project in San Diego led by current Avs owner. This would be my choice should Arizona relocate.

Located about 120 miles south of Kroenke’s $5.5 billion SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, the planned San Diego venue — which could open as soon as 2025 — doesn’t have a price tag but could be a fitting home for a pro basketball or hockey franchise.

San Diego mayor Todd Gloria said the investment from Kroenke should “make it that much more certain that this project will actually come to fruition.”

Neither Kroenke’s championship-winning Nuggets nor his 2022 NHL champion Colorado Avalanche are looking to move from Denver, but the Arizona Coyotes are desperately searching for a viable arena, as they’re currently playing at Arizona State’s 5,000-seat Mullett Arena.

Interesting. You can’t own two franchises in the same league so wonder what Kroenke’s plan is here? Most teams aren’t interested in being tenant’s in someone else’s building.

AEG, which owns the Kings, co-owns 85% of T-Mobile Arena with MGM Resorts and Bill Foley owns the remaining 15%.
