I actually thought this could happen. Lack of depth up front did the Avs in.

No Landeskog, Nicushkin, Helm, Cogliano up front and no Manson on the backend.
Lot of minutes among that group that went to players not as good.

It really does pay to either be an expansion team or lose till your eyes bleed in today's NHL. Being a middling (sometimes competitive) team rarely gets you anywhere. The only recent exception I can think of was the Blues.

If they win 2 more games, that's more success than the Flames in the last 20 years.

They still kind of did.
No trades still is bad and really the roster should be even stronger.
Got kind of lucky they were gifted Bjorkstrand and Tolvanen this year.

Landeskog played as many shifts as I did this year. They won the division without Landeskog. I'm not shedding any tears.
Gets a lot of talk for a 30 year old with one 66+ point season.

Which is why you are sitting on a message board, and they are heading to the 2nd round.
The league adapted after the Vegas experience, don't believe for one second that Francis had the same options available the second time around.

Honestly I think this season hurts Seattle...too soon
They aren't gonna win the cup, they aren't going to draft high, they beat the Avs largely due to injury. They are a pretty average team.
Reminds me of the Wild beating the Avs early in their franchise

I didn't say they had nobody I just don't see a contender anytime soon. I think Dallas pumps them too

Seattle won because of injuries, Florida won because of Goaltending.
Is it a defence mechanism for you to excuse away any other teams successes so you don't feel as bad about the Flames?

Or did they show some patience in not making deals last year to wait for better opportunities to present themselves this year?
Francis is a very patient GM, I'm not at all surprised that he's taking a longer term approach building this team. Rather than squander the picks from the trades last year he used his cap space to add good players for very little. They're going to be a deep team for a lot of years I think.

Seattle won game 7 by one goal...I think it's more than fair to say they dont win if the Avs are healthy. They were missing multiple top players.
Not sure what it has to do with the Flames
Sorry to burst the "best the defending champs" bubble but the Avs were a shadow of their former selves.
As for goaltending it decides most series, are you new?
That is why my money is on Dallas they have by far the best tending and should come out of the West

Seattle got 100 points this season before even facing the Avs.
They are seemingly becoming a decent hockey team, it's that simple.
They were also missing their top scorer which you of course neglect to mention.
We can agree on Dallas though.

Put both teams at full strength the Avs win easily IMO
We will see but Seattle seems pretty mediocre to me moving forward

seattle look pretty good. let's hope vegas doesn't choke, the oilers get through them and it's a cakewalk. I'm getting very nervous.
