Bassit for 3/63 according to Passan. Figured they were in on him.

That's a good price for a guy who has been 3ish WAR last two seasons. FIP is right in line with his ERA. Not a huge K/9. I like it.

It is what it is. Not exciting but it’s crazy how much things have jumped in one year. It’s pretty much the same yearly cost as Gausman just less term.

Ya it's fairly amazing we signed Gausman as a FA.

Big meh on Bassit. Doesn’t move the needle for me much, but as a back end starter sure. Thank goodness it’s only three years too.

2nd best starter out of what was left behind Rodon.

Pretty decent value too, especially in this market. Should be able to piece together a fairly solid rotation now, especially if they get any bounce back from Berrios and Kikuchi.

He's an older player but not alot of tread on him which is nice, only 737 career IP. Contract length is very manageable. Love the signing.

All that's left now really, is to grab a left hand or switch hitting corner OFer.

It'll be interesting to see if they use a catcher to that in a trade, or sign a guy like Conforto or Gallo.

I'd also love to see a high leverage BP arm brought in now too, Rogers, Kimbrel and Rosenthal all still FA's

The main difference I think between Bassit and Stripling is that Bassit goes about half an inning or more longer. Bassit was at six while Stripling is 5-5.5. I don’t think they minded Striplings results but the length of his starts always put strain on the bullpen.

I’m not so concerned about Berrios. Really seemed like an up and down season. Kukuchi I think is done as a starter. Fine with him in the bullpen. It is what it is.

Not so sure on Kikuchi. Him and Senga had similar numbers in the NBL. I think if he just gets his head out of the way he could be very good. His stuff is great. Tbh if Kikuchi was available right now (say last year didn’t happen for him) he’s probably have gone for as much as Bassit.

Didn’t see the Jay spending that much on another pitcher

Ryus contract must have insurance covering it

I like it. He's been very consistent the past 2 or 3 years so that's a breath of fresh air compared to Kikuchi and Berrios. Still wish Stripling was around for another year or two.

Right-hander Chris Bassitt and the Toronto Blue Jays are in agreement on a three-year, $63 million contract pending a physical, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN, fortifying a deep rotation with one of the most consistent starters in the game over the last half-decade.

Bassitt, who will turn 34 in February, was among the most sought-after starters on the market and will receive the third highest per-year salary among free agent pitchers, behind Jacob deGrom and Justin Verlander. Bassitt has kept similar company in recent years, as his 3.29 ERA since 2018 ranks 11th in MLB among pitchers with at least 100 starts.

I like it. Rotation is pretty much set now... just need a big Lefty bat for the OF and the jays are done. I imagine they'll use a catcher to get that... and Brantley if nothing materializes in trade.

Love the signing. Their biggest problem last year, IMO, was not enough innings from the starters, which put too much pressure on the bullpen. That was partly due to bad pitching, and partly due to a quick hook from Montoyo. But none the less, it was an issue.

Bassitt will help a lot on that front. And if Berrios has a bounce-back year, which seems fairly likely, they have 4 starters that can consistently get to the 6th or 7th inning. That immediately improves the bullpen, without even adding an arm.

I don't mind the Kiemaier signing either - his speed will be an asset, as will his defense and work ethic.

Still need a reliever and a left handed bat.
