My Samsung TV has an iOS app that you can keyboard entry any on screen input boxes. Super handy for stuff like that.

look at all you rich people polluting the environment with your fancy vacations.
can't we go back to complaining about zipper merges or eating someone else's chocolate cake at work?

Yes. A yield sign is not a merge sign. I wish people would stop slowing down or coming to a stop to let people in unnecessarily when the other traffic is sitting at a yield. Just let them wait until a natural lull in traffic. l

The Added Lane sign is neither a yield nor a merge sign, stop treating it like either.

Those free flow lanes would work better if the city planners didn't approve such ####ty plans where a parking lot entrance is within about 100 feet of the start of the lane because it is just asking for issues with people trying to cut across the lane into the parking lot. They should really close that first entrance.

The city has started trying to educate people on using the full zipper merge lanes, but socially, it is still a high crime to "sneak in" at the end - punishable by death (based on how many react).

Yeah, that's true. That is one spot where it takes a modicum of skill to get up to speed as you're moving through the corner and assertively bust over if you're going to try to get into that first entrance to Chinook. You should be able to calculate in like a second if it's not doable and then you can just plan to take the next exit into Chinook, but it's not set up to be foolproof, so you get the strugglers stopping there.

I notice this is more of a Calgary (Alberta?) thing. Every time I drive in Vancouver or Toronto, people don't bat an eye if someone cuts in front of them. But here, it's like people take it as a personal offense. Are Calgarians just more ahole-ish when they drive?

Yes. For whatever reason Calgarians absolutely hate letting cars in ahead of them. It's part of the reason the merge lanes are a disaster in this city. You have a large group of drivers that don't understand the concept of merging and another large group that feels they own the car space in front of them.

Haha, well I've lived in all 3 cities for significant periods of time and have seen road rage from being cut off plenty of times in all the cities. I have a couple of friends in particular who immediately come to mind who go absolutely nutty whenever anyone cuts them off or drives "the wrong way" based on how they feel people should drive (similar to the discussions here, actually!). I just don't understand it. I get cut off, I don't give a sh*t lol. I'll be a bit annoyed if it's particularly dangerous, but if nothing bad comes from it, I move on without any sort of rage or lasting annoyance. I never understood how someone could get so upset about these things.

Cars should be rigged to explode when people hit the gas to fill the space of someone with their signal light on.
Google can make it happen. I believe.

PTSD from when people lane change in front of us then proceed to drive 15-under for no reason, another gear grinder.

I honestly think Calgary is "worse" for the zipper merge anger because we're much more friendly as a "smaller" city up till now. Despite being legal, it was seen as rude to "budge ahead" and just now its becoming commonplace enough (and a big enough impediment to flow) that education is starting and society is changing.
Toronto is so big and everyone is so used to people cutting ahead that you're no longer offended since it is part of the game, and if you dont do it, someone else will (or you'll get yelled at). Ditto for some cities and using the shoulder and/or bike lane splitting.

I think the attitude stems from the not only drivers in Calgary having an ego, but those doing the zipper merge are abusing it. This is no more apparent than the 11st SE (deerfoot meadows) to Deerfoot south merge. The amount of people who just dive full speed right to the end, then ignore the lane ending markings and start driving on the shoulder to get that additional one or two car lengths is shockingly high. It's also a massive piss off when their big dive causes people to slam on the brakes. A zipper merge isn't a 100% obligation to use every damn inch of the lane and force cars out of your way, it's just not to merge too far in advance and somewhat get closer to the end.
You then have people in the left lane that are pissed because they watch others jump the solid lines into the merging lane just to try to get ahead, then everyone's ego takes over from there and blocking begins.
I just don't think the zipper merge concept will ever fully work here.
The absolute worst behavior is when you are trying to exit a road and you have to go through the weave lane to do so, and you spot a gap to your right, and there is traffic coming down the onramp. However, that gap is suddenly closed as soon as you turn on your signal by the car that came down the onramp and you see a grin on their face. Like what in the hell is the point, how does that bring joy to someone? Congrats, you took the only gap I had, so now I have to cause both my lane and the weave lane to slow down so the person behind you can let me in.

Oh man, this has been driving me bonkers lately. I let someone in, and the next thing you know they are doing freaking 10-30 under the f'ing limit. I don't know when '10 over' became '10-30 under', but it can swap back at any time.
