So what happens with Ottawa here? It seems like that they gave Vegas and NHL an incorrect contract in the original trade, does that set a precedence for other teams to do the same in the future? What could the acquiring team do here if the only ownership of the modified clause rests with the trading team?

I don't think it will be all that awkward, players don't care...they are probably 100% on his side

This will never occur again.
It hasn't been made a rule/bylaw/whatever yet, but i guarantee that starting this off season, every single contract signed/existing that contains clauses pertaining to player movement....will all now be required to be registered at league office and made available to central registry for every trade ever made from now on.

I still think that Vegas should be forced to bring healthy guys off of LTIR, and forfeit games until they are compliant.
I don’t know how you even begin to clear $15 million when you can’t make a trade, and sending any one player down can only save a maximum of $1million or so.

This is the problem with the system...no NHL player is 100% right now so its too easy to keep a guy out.
Salary cap in the playoffs, just do it...Same LTIR rules will apply there so its not like a team won't be able to ice a roster. If you have to call up black aces so be it, that's the nature of sports.

The Knights should avail themselves of Emergency Backup Goaltenders for the rest of the season.

The Flames are definitely over the cap in the playoffs if you don't prorate Toffoli and Jarnkrok's contracts and add all the black aces

Why wouldn't you prorate...and a black ace doesn't come in unless someone goes down.
roster on the ice being cap compliant is the entire point

Again, adding a player who is already on LTIR does not help you with the cap. The extra cap room you gain is cancelled out by the salary of the injured player.

In the playoffs make $0, so their cap hit is zero, so how would you determine what their cap hit is? If it's based on their AAV, then the Flames are over. If the issue is specifically with LTIR, then I think rules for LTIR would have to change.

its really not that complicated...their cap hit for the final month of the season is the cap hit for the playoffs or something along those lines.
The fact that they just throw out the cap rules in the playoffs is just stupid and leading to a bunch of shady business obviously. Guy needs to practice for 3 months to shake off the rust of a facial laceration.
Of course rules have to change, that is my point

Because Ottawa told Vegas the player did not submit his paperwork, making his NTC invalid. Vegas did their due diligence, Ottawa gave them false information.

People like to blame Vegas and accuse them of cheating but it seems to me with this situation two things are true:
1. The trade, if not for the NTC, was a smart and valid way for them to clear some room
2. That the fault for the situation rests with the Sens, not the Knights, based on the facts known at this point
