Like this draft by CapFriendly. BTW, I haven’t really seen a draft from anyone excluding Gio as the pick from the Flames yet.

Nothing stopping Gio coming back this time next year if that's really what both sides want

What are they going to do? Not give the C to someone and give it back to Giordano?

People overthink these things.
Give the C to someone when Gio leaves.

IF Gio comes back, either he is an adult and not a 12 year old kid and he can handle "just an A" or frankly, he needs to mature . Alternatively, the captain next year gives up the C for Gio out of respect, but not because Gio needs it to sign.

A good captain trains their replacement, I could think of no better leadership example then him having the A while supporting a new captain.

He wasn’t injured. He did get delayed entering Canada. I believe those were visa and quarantine issues. He ended up missing most of training camp because of it. As a result he was not even considered for a top 6 role out of the gate. He had a few stints on the 3rd pair, but Ward was not a fan. By the time Sutter gave him a chance Stone already solidified himself a spot, and Valimaki and Nesterov were fighting for the 6th D.

If they're not ready/willing to give it to someone else right away, then sure?

I could see them not picking a new C right away regardless

I read somewhere, that the trades won't be announced till after the expansion draft.

I bet Seattle has made a fair number of them.

Trades - to not pick the player
Trades - to pick then flip the player

I'm not overly worried about losing Gio. It'd be better if Valimaki would have had a stellar season and looked poised to take over a top 4 role, but he didn't/doesn't.

Luckily, if we lose Gio we will gaining plenty of cap space to bring in a top 4 DMan via UFA. Just have to hope a decent option is willing to sign with the Flames.

The asking price is inherently silly.

There is tremendous variation in the value of 1st round picks.

Calgary's annual 12th to 16th overall pick is worth much more than Tampa's annual 31st pick. Edmonton's annual #1 pick is worth even more, at least until Edmonton uses it.

Of course Calgary wouldn't give a mid to high 1st for protection. That's crazy.
Would they honestly expect a 1st and a 3rd from Buffalo?

My point: it's silly to have a set asking price. It has to be team-by-team.

A seventh rounder and one of Petterson, Phillips or Zavgorodny if they choose Kylington.

But he hasn't slowed down much thus far. Can't get much more clutch than scoring a cup winning goal in OT.
I like him but I wouldn't give him more than 2 years.

I’m not sure I would call a player clutch based on one goal.

Two years won’t get him, some one will offer 3-4 years.

I have this gross feeling that Gio is going to end up with Toronto at the deadline.

It's not silly at all, because there have been teams willing to pay that price, and there's always negotiation.

For the Vegas draft, both the Islanders and the Blue Jackets gave up first round picks for Vegas to select someone specific, and Jets swapped the 13th overall for the 24th overall and threw in a third for the same thing.

I think what 1qqaaz is saying is that it's silly to have a single set asking price for every team. You set your asking price depending on the individual player and the circumstances of the team.

I'd be stunned if Seattle gets anywhere close to the number of deals LGK got the first time around...

Fool me once shame on you....
