I just liked his touches.
Sometimes players come up and they just can't play the same game they play in the AHL due to processing speed.
He was fine.
Walker Duehr hasn't settled down in that head space in over a year. Jakob Pelletier is back to settled again, but couldn't at the end of last season or this preseason.
Kerins was pretty poised every time the puck came his way.
Small sample size, but he's earned another game which is all he could accomplish last night. Very good start.

This is how you deepen the depth charts...
2019 Round 7: Wolf
2020 Round 6: Kerins
2020 Round 7: Solovyov
Pretty, pretty, pretty good

Easy choice

One could only be chosen via lottery luck and the other was available.
Also, one doesn’t have a personality and the other does.

And hitting on 1sts lately too, which has never been a org strong point.
Only 4 times in Calgary Flames history have they had three straight years with contributing 1st round draft picks on the roster (I eliminated Dingman and Baertschi as they didn't really make it here). When they have they've usually drafted high.
The current run of Pelletier, Zary and Coronato is unique.
1981-83
MacInnis
Quinn
Roberts
Avg Draft Pos 13.3
3445 GP
2001-2003
Kobasew
Nystrom
Phaneuf
Avg Draft Pos 11.0
2242 GP
2014-2016
Bennett
Tkachuk
Valimaki (iffy)
Avg Draft Pos 8.7
1550 GP
The current group (2019-2021 / Pelletier, Zary and Coronato) need more games played to make it over the Dingman/Baertschi line (to a less extent Valimaki), but they've done it with the highest draft position average of 21.0.

I wonder if that is luck reverting back the other or better drafting. Emile Poirier looked decent and then had some non-hockey issues

Probably both of those things are factors, but I also think the drafts are getting deeper and deeper. The US is providing almost as many high quality players as Canada now, which is providing more strength to the middle and late first round.
Still, you have to draft well, and develop well. And the Flames appear to be doing just that.

Bennett (2014) and Tkachuk (2016) were not picks in consecutive years. However, the Flames did have Jankowski (2012) Monahan (2013) and Bennett (2014) on the roster at the same time.
So, if Bennett => Tkachuk does count, that would make five in a row.

The poise is the big thing. The assists really could have easily not happened and you'd still be impressed that he held his own and was prepared to drive the net and use his body when needed.
We'll see where he goes with it, but guys like Duehr, Rooney and Kuzmenko should all be worried they are losing their spots with Kerins and guys like Stromgren, Morten and Honzek knocking on the door.
The Flames should be very proud of the work they have done in the AHL over the last 3-4 seasons. It is turning into a major strength and churning out NHL and systems ready players.

Tonight is going to be a MUCH more difficult test for Kerins! (and the whole team). STL are going to play like their season is on the line, and they are going to be MUCH more physical than CHI was. We'll learn a lot about Kerins!, and about the Flames, tonight.

100%. Just one game but the kid looked like he had been playing in game 30 not game 1.
Impressive. And a testament to the coaches on the Wranglers. One of the best things I think the Flames ever did in the last 5 years was move their farm team in house. Honestly surprised more teams do not do this.

Kerins has a motor. We know that about him. I'm pretty sure he knows he's NO finesse player and that dirty ugly goals in thr A are gonna be hard to come by here in the SHOW but that grit he has along with a motor that won't quit is what we need.
Can he be reliable ? That's what matters #1 in Huskas eyes. Play the right way don't be a liability and earn icetime through meritocracy.
Don't F up and do what your coaches tell ya and pass guys on thr depth chart by putting in great performances shift by shift by continuing to use that motor , grit and style consistently.
Take a page out of Coronatos book as work work work on the skating, shot, consistency and he'll stays . Cheering for him. He'll be his own worst enemy if he doesn't just keep doing what he's been doing. 22 years old ....he's come a long way in 2 years but had to have these tough trials whichll continue . Hopefully tonite he shines and or isn't noticeable for a good reason.
Man I love these kids coming up in the system but coming from a Wranglers team whose winning pedigree since coming to Calgary finally is showing the value of having both squads in the same barn.

One thing that stood out to me and was a great sign for Kerins was his effectiveness on Zone Entries and Zone Exits.
Really showed poise, skill, and confidence on the puck, and those are traits that you really need your center to be able to do at the NHL level.

Roberts was 84 (they didn't have a 1st rounder in 82). for your exercise do all have to contribute to the roster at the same time or just in general?
95-97 was trending until injury derailed DT (so I suppose that coudl still happen, but one hopes not), and yeah then I guess I understand your call on SB but 2011-13 is borderline, 2012-14 similarly

I'd like to see Kerins centre Pelts and Duehr.
Wasn't that a successful Wranglers line at one point this season?

Hopefully he can keep it up against a stouter team - Chicago was butter soft on entrances.
