I still love that Brodie goal.

Just stepped right into it. Beautiful! More of that please.

No, Gustafsson is.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Tkachuk (Bennett replacing him)
Gustafsson - Lindholm

Mangiapane - Backlund - Lucic
Giordano - Dube

I think the post you quoted was just a joke, but your statement still rings true.

After Game 1: “We won but our top line didn’t play good enough”

After Game 2: “Why can’t we play good enough to win”

After Game 3: “We shouldn’t have won because we didn’t play good enough”

Exactly what I was thinking during that PK. He really did look like the Gio we know and love. A couple of huge blocks and clears at such a critical time.

He ended up with 6 blocked shots, 1 assist, 3 shots, 2 takeaways, 1 giveaway, 1 hit and a +2 on the night.

Can we just stop and appreciate playoff Brodie for a second? We've made the playoffs four times with this core and he's been our best defenseman in every single series we've played. Even last year when everyone else looked stunned by the Avs, Brodie did his best against MacKinnon. Peters demoting Brodie for Game 3 probably cost us that game.

To be fair he looked pretty bad to start the year, and then suddenly turned it around. But he's a key guy on this team because of his two-way play. They don't have enough of those guys. If Gio wasn't here, I suspect he'd be the captain.

Nope. Anderson doesn’t play on any of the 2 units. Gustafson and Gio play on pp units. I would take any remaining dmen on unit 2 over Gio other than Forbert.

Hanifin was there while Gio was out with injury and I feel like we gave up a bunch of SHG during that period. Perhaps I'm misremembering.

Brodie might make sense but he's never been great on the PP himself (though he's had some good games on the PP, including the 2017 playoffs)

I think Andersson would be great on PP2 - but at the same time, if you look at him last night and at the end of Game 2 - he was visibly exhausted to me. Managing his minutes is important because of how damn good he is at 5v5 play. He's still a young defender in this league - if he were to get PP time we'd be pushing him 25 minutes a night - no need to do that with our depth.

PP2 is most effective when Giordano is making passes, not shooting.

Also, TJ Brodie is very, very good - he and Andersson look like our two best 5v5 defencemen.

I didn’t realize TJ Brodie had that shot in his arsenal. Love to see those shots where it looks like the player is putting every bit of oomph they’ve got into it.

Agreed. Backlund has been our best forward through the playoffs IMO. Maybe our best player outside of Talbot.

2 more points and Brodie is 5th all time in Flames D playoff scoring (mind you catching Reinhart, Macinnis, Suter, Macoun may not be in the cards- 11 behind Macoun so that's a target)

I find it encouraging that this team is finding ways to grind out ugly wins against this Dallas team.

A team like Dallas used to always have the Flames number when they wanted because when the top guys got shut down the whole team floundered. Now we complain about the top line but for Dallas their whole system seams geared towards stopping and slowing down other teams top offensive threats.

St. Louis won a lot of ugly games last year (including against Dallas) and all that matters at the end is if you get more goals past the other guys.

I doubt Brodie knew he had that shot in his arsenal!

11 more Brodie points and 14 more wins. We can do it this year

Up 2-1, and haven't played as solid as they did against the Jets. Not bad at all.

We're in good shape, and could really take off if the 1st line has a few break out games especially at even strength. Then if Gio gets going a little better, could be a bit of a run.

A landslide win with goals from each line and pairing, 100% PK, PP goals, top players undressing the other team, hitting, one sided advanced stat metrics, no lapses in play and favorable reffing all needs to happens just to satisfy certain posters in here. Merely winning isn't enough without checks across the board for style points.

Just imagine how dissatisfied those posters would be three plus rounds deep into the '04 run where the Flames were far from perfect or dominant within the games. Some would've grilled them for game 7 in vancouvwr for giving up the tying goal with five seconds left. Awful, flawed team.

Fluff aside, there's no style points for playoff wins. Maybe get over your nit picking issues and try to enjoy even an iota of this. It can be fun if you let it be.

Don't know why some are trying so hard to manifest losses that haven't happened yet by focusing on how everything will DEFINITELY go wrong.
