Goaltending duo for around 5 million dollars for next year? That can be a steal, if Talbot has even a slight bounce back, which I think is possible.
He has already had his pit stop to separate him from his Oilers failures.
Nice.

So Talbot has worn #33 in all his NHL stops. Rittich has worn #33 since making his debut but wore #40 in the preseason in 2016.
Who gives?

Rittich wore #39 in Stockton and at the World Championships last year. It looks like Talbot has worn #33 all the way back to college at least.
I could see Rittich switching to 39. It has been a good number for Czech goalies.

I forget...is Rittich an arbitration candidate this season? If so, that might be 3.5+ given 2019 comparables

I like this deal just because if it works out that’s just another thing to give Oiler fans #### about.

Yes. He is. What comparable did you have in mind?

Good move. I think Talbot will be just fine playing within a compentant organization with a proper structure in place where he can focus on hockey.
This really is Rittich’s year to prove his worth. I still don’t think he has the full confidence of the coach or GM until, proven otherwise that he can be the number 1 guy. He’s been up and down and been pulled a few times by Peters, where Peters would let a vet play out of the same situation.
Before the puck drop, could be an interesting arbitration case and may show the Flames cards with their thoughts on Rittich. I wouldn’t say it’s a 100% he’s even back this season. 98% sure he’s on the team but if something better falls in BTs lap or some team really really wants him and or a weird arbitration case, he could be had. Then a Smith and Talbot tandem.

Bill Peters will know Talbot well Talbot led Team Canada to gold at the 2016 world championships that Peters coached. Treliving was also co GM of that team which may have helped in the recruiting. Hope he has a bounce back season if the signing happens.

Hopefully Treliving knows Talbot better than he did Smith.

I'm okay with Talbot. I personally wanted more but this off season is a really weird one. No house keeping has been done to paint a clearer picture around the Flames. But a decent aged reclamation goalie is okay
I do wonder about Rittich though. Are his arb rights going to put a Kink in trees plans. Is that why they're scouring.the trade market for goalies?

Or
Hopefully he doesn't know Talbot at all.
Since the goalies he seems to know don't pan out here as you say.
Rittich was cause of the flames scout looking at Cervenka I believe it was, who took note of BSD while watching that team.

I think the scout was looking at Daniel Pribyl actually who has since fallen off a cliff after signing with us; hasn’t played a game of competitive hockey since the Heat in 16/17

You will know how bad Talbot will be by how much Tre upsells him. When he acquired Smith he made it sound like the Flames has acquired a Vezina caliber goalie.

If Tre can verify that Talbot is athletic enough to dunk a basketball, that's good enough evidence for me of his goaltending potential.
