Versteeg replaces the physicality the Flames lost when they bought out Raymond and traded away Hudler.
You should probably do some research, Versteeg is a pretty gritty player. He been in a lot of fights and handles himself well. Also put up 172 pims one year in junior. Your index might have missed it because his current pims are low, but that reflects his maturity, and also a flaw in your index.

Exactly. These are the types of low costs acquisitions that winning teams make to round out their rosters.
The Flames have the main pieces locked-up with Bennett still to be extended. With any luck some of the next guys in line; Tkachuk, Kylington, Andersson etc will still be on ELC as we start to contend. Then you're able to make low cost, or rental player acquisitions to complete a roster and make a run.

You should do research too maybe? In the last 3 years Versteeg has a total of 80 hits, 4 fights and 116 PIMS. Versteeg is not all that gritty. ######bag? Yes. Gritty? No. Let's call a spade a spade, he's a less physical version of Alex Burrows.

Is that a problem?

I don't get where this whole dirtbag concept comes from, or that he's bad in the locker room comes from.
I'm not arguing it, I'm not disputing it. But it just seems that people are going to this avenue.
The guy has been on multiple Stanley Cup winners with the Blackhawks who re-aquired him for the second one, and I can't see the Hawks keeping a guy for multiple years if he's a completely locker room scumbag.

I query this as well. I get that he may be a bit of a dick to opposing teams, but I really have difficulty with the naysayers regarding his team presence, in the room or on the ice.

I never said it was or wasn't a problem, but I don't see how anyone can claim Versteeg is gritty and fights alot. I haven't watched him a ton but I have never seen a gritty guy, I see someone with some offensive skills that likes to yap without backing it up. The numbers do however back up what I have seen; he doesn't really fight (usually 1 fight a year), he's never had 60 hits in a season before and he doesn't rack up PIMs.

I am not a huge fan of his, but for this price, it is a no-brainer for the Flames and the holes they have on the wing. The only negative thing I can see from Versteeg (and this is only based on a few recent interviews) is that he is extremely confident in his abilities. That could come off as cocky or arrogant. I think it is actually a good attitude to have. Hopefully it inspires the room to play with some confidence.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
