Late to this and have not read the last few pages, but did anyone ask him about the transition from MLB player to NHL coach? Any transferable skills or did he have to start from scratch?

Views from Canucks fans around the Internets is mostly "meh". Confusion around whether he ran the PP or PK in Vancouver (if PP then hoping he brings that to Calgary and if PK then pretty average results)... lots of acknowledgements of his ability to work with younger players (including Kassian), but mostly not a big loss according to them to their team and views that this probably wasn't the best move by the Flames.
We shall see Canucks fans... we shall see....

I actually view their "meh" as a back door compliment.

Hmm well the meh was more my interpretation.
The overall thoughts I guess online are that he didn't bring any new ideas to the Canucks so there shouldn't be a big impact either way to the Canucks play going forward.

Can somebody please gif or grab a screenshot of Treliving's locked-in stare when they first cut to the press conference on Sportsnet? That was intense! Looked like the cupcake dog having 'Nam flashbacks.
Hope Gully does better than our last redhead GG head coach. He made a good first impression!

Unfortunately I don't think we are going to get any solid quotes this year. From what I heard from the press conference and the interview on the fan most of the quotes will involve "right" and "juice".

Well in fairness, fan bases on the internet often have a really good handle on coaches, especially assistant ones, so colour me concerned that Nucks fans don't view this move as a concerning one.

Maybe they all went together and Gulutzan was the only one that made it to the top with Conroy.

GG mentioned Stajan a few times as part of the strong veteran leadership, and at one point alluded to finding him a role better suited to him.
I'd imagine we can expect Stajan to be a winger on the top three lines as opposed to #4 center moving forward.
I also wonder if a new coach will breath some life back into Raymond as well.
Will be interesting to follow, and a guy can hope that these two guys (if still here next season) get a boost in value from any combination of a new coach, better utilization and a new lease on life.

Pretty funny story about Conroy and Gulutzan doing the Grouse Grind: http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=886367
Quote:
“Gully was telling me ‘Hey, it’s not bad, the Sedins do the climb in 33 minutes or something,’” marvels Conroy at the recollection. “So I text Marty (Gelinas) and he says: ‘Yeah, I’ve done it.’ Thirty-whatever minutes for him. So in my mind, I’m thinking: Okay, little mountain climb, this is going to be … easy.
“Shows you how wrong a guy can be.
“We start and I’m like: ‘Holy … crap!
“I thought this was going to be hilly, right? Nope. Straight up. Rocks everywhere. I mean, tough.
“We’re climbing and I’m thinking we’ve must be at least halfway up. And then we reach … the quarter pole.”

Hard to say .. many fans have no clue what the assistants do.. I mean how many many Flames fans would truly know what we'd lose if Gelinas or Pringle left ?
