I didn't like the Nylander we had playing for us in the "young guns" days. He was soft and ineffective, though very skilled. I hope we don't wind up with another.
Nylander is a better goal scorer Dubois or Tkachuk. Nylander plays from the point on the power play and can find seems. A lot of goals are individual efforts, whereas Tkachuk is a trigger man for Dvorak and Marner.
Sure Nylander is soft. But hes really fast when he wants to be (he likes to slow things down) and he's got softer hands than both Dubois and Tkachuk. I like the physical game of Dubois, but Tkachuk I don't like at all at 6th OA. Tkachuk doesn't generate offense on his own. He reminds me of Yakupov.

For some reason when you say "soft" and can "be really fast when he wants to be" I think of Mason Raymond and cringe.

I might cry a little bit if the Flames lost the Stanley Cup in game 7. Maybe if they won in game 7, too.
But the Flames dropped one inconsequential spot in the draft order. They will still choose an excellent player with this pick.
This really is no big deal. There is no need to be upset, nor is there any need to tank any seasons as a result. You just continue calling more attention to yourself, which is not contributing to a healthy discussion here.
Not trying to be mean or rude, here. Just clean it up.
I am sorry, just a little bit down, I spent a lot of time, watching Matthews and Fins highlights.
It looks like Sean Monahan, is having fun at the expense of the Leafs and Matthews, number 5 is funny LOL
Both those teams had top 3 picks, they werent drafted by Detroit though. They also had the second greatest defenceman of all time, so there's a chance we could draft somebody like that, but it's probably like one in five thousand.
Serious question, did something happen in the last week that turned you into such a debbie downer?
What you're saying is beyond pointless.
Bennett, Monahan and Gaudreau could have been top 3 picks in various drafts throughout the years, clearly being better than a list of players drafted in those meaningless numerical spots.
Of all the things in the world to use to forecast doom, that is beyond weak on your part to suggest.

Don't worry about it, pal - trust me, I've been there.
If there's one thing I've learned from being a lifelong fan of both the Flames and the Leafs, it's that you always have to prepare for the bad results.
I've clicked on exactly zero Matthews/Finn highlight videos. I have, however, watched a ton of Dubois/Nylander/Juolevi/Chychrun/Tkachuk/Jost clips, knowling that we were likely to not win the lottery.
Being a Leafs fan second, I can enjoy having Matthews on one of my favourite teams. However, I'll always cheer for the Flames to beat Toronto, and I think a Dubois/Tkachuk/Nylander will be a huge piece for this team going forward.
Have a good weekend.

Don't worry, the Flames scouting department has made the best of their picks despite not having the top picks. Monahan is the best in 2013, Gaudreau in 2011, Jankowski looks like he'll be at least as good as anyone taken from 14 on in 2012, Bennett could work out to be the best in 2014, Hamilton is awesome for a mid 1st and two late 2nd's in 2015.
Which ever way it breaks out, I'm sure that they will skate away with a great young player.

This is driving me nuts so if everyone is so high on Dubois and he's also projected to go #4 by real professionals that spend time scouting, analyzing, and actually get paid for this, there is no way Flames are getting him. Edmonton will most likely take him as they need another power forward and they could afford him time to develop. For those that seem to think they are taking a dman, that is ridiculous as some already have stated on here, they want a #1 dman now, which they will most likely go after with trades of current roster players as those same roster players have not made the team any better.
I hate the Oilers as much as any Flames fan, so the notion of them taking a dman with their pick is totally daydreaming. If they do trade the pick, whoever the team that makes the pick will most likely take Dubois if he's BPA.

I think they are the #1 candidate to trade down or trade the pick entirely. They need to address the defense in the worst way. If they do it right, they could walk away with two good D-men (say trading down to 7 for their pick and a guy like Stone or Murphy or something)

Agreed - the Oilers have no forward prospects at all. At least they have some decent defensive prospects in the system. I think Chiarelli will be happy to get his Lucic/Benn mix...and if not, he'll trade the pick for a team that will want Dubois. I can't see Dubois slipping to #6.
That's a very young lineup that's lacking a lot of size. They'd get crushed playing playoff hockey against the teams in the West. Not to mention, 12 (!!) of the players you list would be playing their first 1-2 seasons in the NHL in 2017/18. Ignoring the fact that it's incredibly unlikely every one of those prospects pans out...let's please not go down the route of the Oilers where we dump all our veterans and only play young skilled players before they're ready.
It's just an idea about the organizations depth chart. There's 5 forward lines and 8 pairs, so obviously not all those players will be regulars in the line-up. It also doesn't account for signings or free agents or any number of trades that are available. Come October and the 2017/18 season, there's some bodies who will have to clear waivers and get signed. Just relax.
That would make it one of the youngest in the league. But keep in mind Tampa Bay has an average age of ~26 years old. An NHL team averages between 6'1" and 6'2", with Anahiem being the shortest in the league to start the year. The small guys listed at JG (5'9"), Shinkaruk (5'11") and Mangiapane (5'10"). Both JG and Shinkaruk have shown no issues at the NHL level?
Here's who doesn't make that list, for the purposes of calculating a percentage of those who didn't pan out:
Shore
Agostino
Jooris
Stajan
H. Smith
Arnold
Kulak
Culkin
Bouma
Sieloff
Wotherspoon
Hathaway
Carroll
Nakladal
I just picked out the cream of the crop. Who knows, maybe Shore becomes our 2nd line LW and Mangiapane busts?

I don't think he needs to relax. You saying that line up one page back is likely what next year's roster will be was a head-scratcher. There's no way all those young players take full time spots next year. You've clarified here which is much more reasonable but it's no surprise that post garnered the reaction it did when you say "Chances are the line-up will look something like this". Next year's roster won't look anything like that.
For some reason when you say "soft" and can "be really fast when he wants to be" I think of Mason Raymond and cringe.
OK. Well Raymond was too fast and had stone hands. In Vancouver when he was still lighting fast, he fumbled over the puck alot. And Raymond isn't fast anymore. He hasn't been fast since Vancouver. Nylander is nothing like Raymond IMO. Nylander can work at high speeds and more often than not slows things down to make plays.

Since when was the 2017/18 season next year's roster?
I explicitly stated that this team is built to be a contender for that year, once a bunch of contracts have expired.

It was your sentence structure. Saying " Next season is just the transition year to be a playoff bubble team. Chances are the line-up will look something like this:"
Made it sound like you were talking about next season.

I bought into all the hype of the top 3 and I honestly thought the Flames would be in the top 3, really happy for the Leafs(their fans are incredible) and the Jets(one small dedicated fan base, that is going to get bigger), I think it will be good.

Ah, my mistake. I shouldn't have even mentioned next season. But that's how I imagine the organization planned the rebuild. Next year should be a push for contention while the 2017/18 is when they win the division, maybe even the whole Western Conference title.

This is very true, hopefully he hit another grand slam in the later rounds, really cheering for the Stars. I am going to love this, for the next 2 months, it will be back forth between the Calgary fans on this site and others.
I'm ok with the results to be honest. Yes, I know this sounds petty, but I feel dropping one spot is a small price to pay as a tradeoff for both Edmonton and Vancouver getting screwed. At this point, prospects ranked 4-8 are about the same, so we're guaranteed to get a good player no matter what.
