I guess everyone here's on the Stars bandwagon now? I already was, they're fun.
Anyway, I picked "great trade", but it wasn't more than I expected. It was about what I expected. However, it's still a great trade, because Kris Russell is hot garbage as a hockey player and getting a return like this for garbage is pretty great for the Flames.
You think the player is hot garbage yet always expected this return? How do you square that one with yourself?

My first reaction to this is extremely positive. Well done BT!
Now cheering for Dallas of course. Having a second 1st would be outstanding!
Would be especially handy if we end up drafting 5th or 6th overall after the lottery. You can flip the second 1st and a 2nd to trade into the top 3 to draft a Finn, and still have a pick in the second round.
Very, very good trade for BT. Give credit where it is due. I was underwhelmed by the Hudler return but he seems to have gotten some very useful parts here. TBH I had never heard of Pollock but seems like a solid 2nd round prospect. Even if the Stars don't make the conference finals, this is still a very good trade for the Flames. If they do, well its an absolute home run. and would be better than either Iginla or Bouwmeester returns.
I think its very cool that as a Flames fan I have a strong rooting interest in this years playoffs now. That is a very cool sweetener as a fan.

May be more like second first + both 2nds + ? to snag that second top pick

how the **** do you give up Pollock for UFA Russell?!?!

wow that's terrible for the stars. what a pickup for the flames

I love trading off a forward prospect and a pick just to swap a younger 6-7 defenseman for an older one. Between the way this team has been playing lately and this joke of a move, I may just be done with this team for the season.

Im crying... I really really really did not think Russel was the answer. We are under sized and just got smaller on the back end. Also likeked Pollock

I'm absolutely stunned that Nill was willing to pay that for RUSSELL
THE NO GOOD

That is a flat out horrible trade for the Stars. Just awful.

I think Elliotte is trolling. Conditions not confirmed by anyone else yet.

lol Russell sucks. absolutely horrendous for the stars. can't believe a great gm like Nill would trade for him.

Dallas just sold the farm for a smaller, worse, much lower scoring version of Jack Johnson.

I doubt anyone trades out of the top 3 since there's such a big drop off after the fins.
The Calgary Flames announced today that they have acquired defenceman Jyrki Jokipakka, prospect Brett Pollock and a conditional second round draft pick in the 2016 NHL Draft in exchange for defenceman Kris Russell.
*Condition: In the event Dallas advance to the 2016 Western Conference Final in the 2016 Stanley Cup playoffs, and Russell dresses in 50% of the games in the first two (2) rounds, the draft choice shall become Dallas’ first round choice in the 2016 NHL Draft.
Jokipakka, a 24-year-old blueliner, is in his second season with Dallas where he has played 40 games this year and has two goals and four assists. The Tampere, Finland native was the Stars’ seventh round pick (195th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft.
Pollock, a 19-year-old centre, is playing his fourth year for the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League. The product of Sherwood Park, Alberta is leading the WHL’s Oil Kings in points (67), assists (42) and plus/minus (+21). Pollock, a 6’3” centre, was Dallas’ second round pick (45th overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft.
I think this is a better return than the Iginla deal.
Calgary is already getting a bonafide NHL player out of the deal, the 2nd/1st could just be gravy on top.
And better than the Polak return. Eat it, naysayers.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
Jokipakki seems like a very boring and vanilla type of defenseman, which is good because I think the defense core is too offensive and excitable. He could be a good fit with Hamilton. Hopefully he develops into a Hjamalsson type.

Agreed. Pollock looks higher upside than Agostino/Hanowski. Jokipakka already an NHLer. The only thing better about the Iginla trade is that the pick was in a deeper draft.
Crazy that Russell gets more than Iginla even with the NMC. Feaster botched that so bad.
