1:34 into the OT session. They wanted to minimize the number of shootouts. That's how you minimize the number of shootouts.

Brace yourself for an opinion, and I didn't think it would be more of a gimmick when it was announced and I wish the NHL had neither option, but IMO it's more of a pond hockey gimmick than I like.
Hate both, and even though the Flames will likely have success, it was a circus.
