How much money does he make over there in that league? Would an NHL signing bonus cover it?

I thought Loob's comments were that he would be best served by going to the AHL and seeing the physicality there.

What a funny coincidence he gets drafted by Brandon. The Wheat Kings are the team I decided to follow closely at the end of this season. I've been looking for another team besides the Flames/Heat/Thunder to follow and landed on the Wheat Kings. Hopefully he plays.

I'd love to see him on the wheatkings. Screw his contract with aik he needs to learn the North American game. If he can adjust like rasmus did it would be awesome. I could see kylington being a ppg dman in the chl. But I wonder if he can handle the physicality and the quicker / simpler / safer or more efficient decisions he will need to make In his own end of the rink in North America with the smaller ice and way more forechecking.

Treliving says that as a 2nd round pick Kylington must be offered back to his Swedish team first. If he was a 1st round pick he doesn't.

Opporunity to play in the AHL and CHL exist.

Kylington is training in California before development camp.

Decision will be made for what is best for Oliver. Decision may be out of their hands due to contract status.

Didn't Loob suggest that he should come to NA? You'd think that would up the odds considerably as hes the president of the team no?

President of Farjestad BK, Kylington has a contract with AIK next year, no agreement with Farjestad.

Also I believe Kylington mentioned on the Fan when he was drafted his contract is 1+1 meaning he has a player option for the second year

Is any one else concerned that his biggest success came with a league called ALL SVENS KAN?

That's the league, not the team

Kelly McCrimmon:
would call it a calculated risk in picking Kylington (in the CHL import draft)
thinks if Kylington would be one of the top d-men in the WHL - so that part of it was easy

with his contract situation, they are going to need some things to fall into place if he ever is going to be a Brandon Wheat King
he is under contract in Sweden with his team - so he would need to be signed by the Flames, then the Flame would have to make arrangements with Sweden where they wanted him to play in North America
from that point he would be given an opportunity in all likelyhood to play in the AHL
depending on where the Flames and Oliver's representatives felt was going to be best for his development they would then make the decision if he would continue to play in the AHL or WHL
so there are a number of things that have to happen for him to play for the Wheat Kings, but doesn't think it is impossible for those things to happen

edit: reading between the lines it looks like McCrimmon is hoping for a Backlund type situation, where things don't go well in Sweden and the Flames bring Kylington to North America

Treliving also said the situation with Kylington for 2015-16 is still not clear. He does have a contract with AIK but there might be an out.

Interesting.

Is there room for him in the AHL? I would think Treliving would prefer him to play in the WHL to develop more.

Let's say he plays 1 year in the WHL can he then play in the AHL the next season or WHL again?

i believe due to his age, under 20, he would have to play in the CHL if he came over

No, only players directly drafted out of the CHL must return to the CHL.

No, he can play in the AHL too, due to *not* being drafted from the CHL.

Don't think so, he shouldn't under the CHL player transfer agreement which is what prevents younger players from playing in the AHL. Same sort of thing happened with Sieloff who played in the AHL after one year with Windsor because he was drafted out of the USHL.

Other than Russians, European teams tend to be accomodating if players want to go to NA, even if it's for the lower levels, as long as they get monetary compensation.

But it’s not as simple as Flames general manager Brad Treliving flashing an NHL contract in front of him and bringing the player immediately overseas.

In order for the Flames to make a move, Kylington has to be released from his current agreement to sign a new one.

“You can’t be under two contracts, so that’s No. 1,” Treliving explained. “We want to find out if there’s an opportunity for that to happen. Then, the NHL-Swedish agreement … if you’re a first-round pick, you don’t have to be offered back to your Swedish team first. If you don’t get drafted in the first round, you do. There’s another twist to it. There’s a couple of steps so we’ll see.”

Kylington, who was one of the most noticeable players at this week’s development camp, has clear raw talent. Makes sense considering he has played with men since he was a 16-year-old playing with Farjestad BK in 2013-14.

He’s also well-versed in the North American life.

Before coming in late June to the NHL draft in Florida (and flying to Los Angeles to visit friends and then to Calgary for the Flames rookie camp), he was in Ottawa for the World Junior Championship and spent some time in New York, L.A., San Diego and Chicago.

From all this talk I feel like the Flames do want to get Kylington over to NA ASAP. Otherwise why explore the options?

If they can do it I think they will.
