It is no where near as bad as some of you are making it out to be.

This buys management more time. That's good.

He is a great prospect and should be able to help them out of the basement and maybe even battle for a playoff spot. That will keep them out of future draft lotteries, which is also good.

But in a salary cap world, becoming a real contender is not as easy as one draft pick. Oiler management have given us no evidence to suggest that they can take the team to the top.

I see the addition of MacDavid as a potentially perfect scenario: keeping management in place and planting the Oilers perfectly into no man's land, kind of like Washington.

Also, I wonder if the league has sent those ping pong balls to be scientifically micromeasued and weighed,as well as a full forensic audit on the company to make sure no unidentified wire transfers came from one of Katzs' company in the past 6 months.

Ok the last part is half in jest, but the league would take any loophole it could and would gladly admit an internal error if it meant anyone but Edmonton got this pick, above all others.

Well I am really pissed off the EDM got McDavid.

I also feel terrible FOR McDavid. Such a promising prospect going to the NHL graveyard.

But one stat that was posted that I liked from eariler is that the Oilers have a -85 goal differential. Optimistically, McDavid improves that to -35.

Still no where near playoff contention.

MacT has proven (along with Lowe) they cannot build a team.

This statement is so frustrating because it's exactly what Oiler fans are saying right now.

Dozens of posts in their celebration thread on HF mocking the Flames, saying we're going to lose in 5.

This is the era we live in. Fans of the worst sports team ever are mocking the Flames for making the playoffs and losing out on a chance at McDavid.

Man, reading they somehow got McDavid made me feel like I'd swallowed a can of Drano. All empty and hollow inside.

So McDavid goes from the Erie Otters to the Eerie Oilers?

No offense, but its your fault for going to HF. I wouldn't go to a insane asyllum and complain that there are crazier and crazier people in the world these days.

The game has evolved since the Gretzky era. The gulf between the best and worst players in the league has leveled out. Players train at a consistently high level, preparation is better and coaching and goaltending is better. The great players are still great but they don't dominate the way they once did. Drafting Tavares, Stamkos and Ovechkin got their teams great talents but no Cups. Crosby has a single Cup.

I look forward to watching the kid grow and evolve. I love to make fun of the Oilers but what I really love are Flames Oiler games that matter. We should get more of those now but I don't think the kid is going to bring 5 more Cups to that organization.

Screw the Oilers. This may be good for the Flames. It hopefully makes sure that Treliving and Burke are sharp and on there toes. Draft well, trade well, develop well. Do it all better than those losing donkeys up north, do it the right way.

We need a new Phaneuf/Regehr/Gauthier pairing on D for the Tunnel of Death. Let Bouma/Ferland/Bennett ruin McDavid up front.

I'm just there to read their opinions on it.

To quote Brian Burke, "they won a god damn lottery".

They're now acting like they were doing it the right way all along.

I believe it also goes from no chance at Mike Babcock to a good chance if given the titles as Roy and a boatload of cash.

This is a really good post, puts things in perspective.

But I'm still pissed off.

What really would have had them jacked is is if they would have finished ahead of us in the standings and still ended up with the #1. Screw them. Having actual success and being in the playoffs is so much better than being where that organization is.
