Ottawa Police confirm Canadian soldier has died, and that one suspect has also died.

Up until now it wasn't actually official.

RCMP presser going to start any minute

CBC link
CTV link

Ottawa Police also confirm no incident at Rideau Centre, which restores hope that there may only have been one shooter.

All we can hope for right now is that there was only one shooter and it's over

Very sad day. Will be thinking about EVERYONE there.

Video of police rushing the shooter is both difficult to watch and inspiring. Bravery. Pride.

Very sad day

In light of this though, very impressed with the Ottawa Police and RCMP response.

There was no explicit confirmation of that, we mostly just inferred it: earlier they were confirming that there were 3 separate incidents, and given that the Parliament gunman was killed the Rideau incident had to have been a second gunman based on the timeline. But now they're saying there was no Rideau incident, therefore it is again possible for there to be only one perpetrator.

As a ex service member, Anytime there is a death of anyone in uniform it hits me and anyone else from that community hard, especially in a heinous attack like that.

There will be little that can be said to provide comfort to the victims family and friend. Canada has been changed a little bit with the death of two soldiers being murdered on their own homeland. Its one thing to send a Soldier over seas to die, its an expectation of everyone in that community that death in war and peace in a faraway land is a possible fate. But to die at home in violent and cowardly attacks is another thing. These are our protectors, these are the brave who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, they deserve our respect at the very least and our admiration.

RIP

There are a lot of places still on lockdown that aren't in the immediate area so I am taking from that, that there is still concern of some sort.

Just repeating information that's already been posted here so far. Nothing new that I've heard.

The Ottawa Police is in charge of investigation of incidents that happened off Parliament Hill. The RCMP is in charge of investigation of incidents that happened on Parliament Hill.

Agreed. From what I saw from the Ottawa Police, they were proceeding under the assumption that there was more than one shooter. Given one was shot dead inside Centre Block and they were searching for another, that seems a safe assumption.

Of course, once everything calms down, it is possible that there was only one shooter, and the second person(s) they were looking for were a product of the chaos.

Officials won't confirm if the Parliament shooter is the same shooter as the War Memorial

RCMP can't say if there was one shooter or more.

This seems odd, why not confirm something like this?
