I am not a legal expert, but if this person repeatedly brought her dog after being asked not to, she may in fact be trespassing and charged with Mischief. I am not sure if 'desecration' is a crime or not or what would legally be equal to desecration, but damaging people's property can certainly be a crime.
This person, as I have said earlier, would be a real idiot if she continued walking her dog there if in fact she was asked not to.
Plots in Calgary are very expensive, thousands of dollars.

Except she hasn't been asked not to by anyone other than a random person and it is a public park. There isn't any tangible damage to anyone's physical property with the only potential damage being to someone's feelings by someone feeling like their dead relatives were disrespected. It is unfortunate that the dog pooped but do people really think that this is a crime?
And no I don't think that a small amount of dog excrement or urine makes a burial plot markedly worse, you can think that something is wrong with me all you want, but it doesn't change what the plot means to me as an individual. If a small amount of dog poop temporarily on a plot makes a difference in how you view the plot, then I feel bad for you and the relationship that you have for the person in the ground.

After clearly laying out multiple times significant points that you keep ignoring, clearly you are not interested in any rational debate. Comments alluding to you being a troll I conclude are accurate.

All you have done is make arguments based upon emotions pointing to how there is damage to the plot, something that I don't see. I would like to have some understanding of how there is any damage to the plot or how the grave is desecrated by there being dog poop on it for a short period of time.
This will be my last post on the subject, but I really don't see the big deal, it isn't as though there is any intentional disrespect given and in a lot of ways I know that I would want my loved ones to be in an area that people felt comfortable walking through and saw death as being an inevitable extension of life.

I live near that area and can tell you that it's not uncommon for dog walkers, joggers, mothers with strollers etc to be seen cutting through the cemetery or walking peacefully by themselves. Though I have no loved ones buried there, I for one welcome it as a constant presence is a deterrent to vandals, it keeps the coyotes at bay (a real problem in Roxboro and Erlton) and contributes to sense of community we have in the area. Being one of Calgary's oldest neighbourhoods, Erlton has 5 different cemeteries scattered throughout it, and while others may shudder at the thought, we embrace it.
As is usually the case, we have very few facts in the matter other than these: a strange man approached a lone female in a deserted cemetery, he followed her, and then took photographs of her and her dog which he posted in an attempt to publicly shame her. If this had happened to your sister, mother or daughter the reaction would likely be the same as my husbands, one that I can't post here.
In the photo she has what appears to be a white grocery bag in her right hand which I would have to assume was being used to pick up the poop. Only she and the photographer know for sure, and I find it very telling that he choose to run with the photograph he did as opposed to one of her potentially bending over to pick it up.
The reaction to this encounter is one that I'm sure no one expected. Thousands of people have viewed this, and hundreds have commented. The irony is not lost on me that a "public shaming" situation is being furthered by anonymous posters who use a fictional username and generic photo in their posts.
While others clearly don't agree, the fact that this young woman committed a minor by-law infraction (having a dog off leash in a cemetery) is of zero concern to me. To those screaming that this is "desecration" of a grave site, let me point out there is roughly 3 feet of snow covering the entire cemetery at the moment. I would suggest that you save your public shaming outrage for the true criminals. How many of you even care that thousands of bars will pour out thousands of vehicle driving patrons later this morning who have had multiple alcoholic beverages? Will you be waiting outside to capture their photo and post it? How many of you have camped outside of the Calgary courts and published photos of convicted rapists, wife beaters, pedophiles and thieves as they walk out?
I think we all need to take a deep breathe and allow for a little perspective in this situation. A cursory glance of this thread shows dozens of posters calling her a b*tch, some telling her to kill herself, that she deserves to die, and in one case that she should raped.
This young lady looks to be my daughters age and my heart breaks for her. In this situation the shame I feel is for the public, not for her.

Public shaming? She broke the rules, was disrespectful, and in a public place.... Welcome to freedom of speech and public opinion... Don't like it, move to Russia or go work at CBC

Not only is this not a freedom of speech issue at all, but this is exactly the type of activity promoted in police states. They want civilians to be vigilant against rule breakers and that want them to tattle on each other. Many former police states still suffer from civilian distrust, especially when cameras are involved. I shudder to think of what dictators like Stalin and Tito would have done if smart phones and social media were around then.

Which is probably the exact same thing every person buried in that cemetery would say to the person that took the photo and posted it if they had 5 more minutes on this planet. The furthest thing on their minds would probably be about publicly shaming someone over this. Life is really too short to sweat the little things.

I feel sorry for the young lady. In no way does she deserve the anonymous public shaming she's being subjected to.
She committed a minor by-law infraction. She cleaned up after the dog. Nuff said.
All those holier-than-thou posters on here and other sites, that are gleefully participating in this public denigration, should take a long hard look at yourselves.
Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone.
I wish Regulator would remove the pic from his first post. Its totally unnecessary.

Phew, let me take a deep "breathe" here.
- PHM doesn't have anyone buried there, but is fine with deciding who should be allowed to hang out there, regardless of any rules set in place
- PHM says we don't have enough facts to make a judgement, then claims the lady was followed by a strange man and her husband was apparently outraged by her invented version of events
- PHM calls public shaming "ironic" because people here aren't opening themselves to public criticism, but ironically does so in a message to another poster that she has him post for her.
- PHM brings up people (legally) drinking this morning, assuming they will all be driving drunk home. Then irrelevantly brings up rapists and pedophiles to add some sort of levity to her complete lack of a point.
- PHM makes ONE good point amongst her failed attempts: That this girl probably doesn't deserve to have death wished upon her.
The post is just silly.
I haven't weighed in since the CBC thing ran I don't think, but I did also find it ironic that they carried a story over public shaming. The media, who carry constant stories about people and companies, often without the full set of facts or any verdict of guilty to fall back on, is accusing someone else of public shaming.
That whole story was so deeply ironic. This situation has gotten laughable.
Lady brought her dog where it wasn't supposed to be. The dog doing it's business is irrelevant. The fact that the lady didn't care to follow the rules that are put in place to ensure the dead are respected is all there is to it. This isn't 1980. Welcome to the Internet. If you're doing something wrong there in public there is a huge chance a lot of people are going to know about it. Did people overreact? Yeah. Don't like it? Then don't break the law/be disrespectful in public.
Pretty simple.

The griping about this isn't about how close the dog#### got to the actual body in the box buried underneath the snow and dirt.
There are some things you just don't do. Call it respect, symbolism, civility, or even "simple things you just don't do, and if you do them, you are a real jerk.
A fitting example today is "don't walk all over the other team's flag in the dressing room", and that rule has nothing to do with damaging the poly-cotton blend.
You don't spit on someone's floor, even if they have one of those cool Swiffers.
Hell, you don't even take the last piece of birthday cake without asking.
Now it's true that the flag isn't really harmed, the floor can be cleaned, nobody needs another piece of cake, and the person in the dirt isn't really affected by dog####, but still, you just don't do it.
Or maybe some people do, but those people are real jerks. And if someone takes a picture of them being real jerks, they've only got themselves to blame.
And if other people drink and drive, that doesn't mean you should let your dog take a #### in the cemetery.
