Got my 5s today. Overall it's a more refined version of the iPhone 5, obviously. The Touch ID has only failed me once in dozens of unlocks, and each in less than a second. There is literally no wait time for anything, and it's becoming more noticeable through regular use. I got the phone with about 70% battery out of the box, did my iCloud restore and turned on iTunes Match (sucks battery in my experience), used the phone all day and I'm still at 20%.
Something I learned the other day that is actually an iOS 7 feature called multipath TCP. It's the first time a commercial product has implemented the technology, and means the phone is able to be connected simultaneously to multiple data connections (ie. LTE+wifi). It means if you're streaming radio in the house before leaving, you can walk on the door and it won't drop the signal and rebuffer the stream. Things like this is why I stay with Apple.

Go into your general settings and choose the Background App Refresh section. Turn that crap off for everything except those apps that need to be able to run in the background. (google maps, waze, etc) Double check your location services settings (found in the privacy area). Turn off location services for everything other than what is needed. Maps needs locations services, but the IMDB app sure as hell doesn't.
My battery life on my 4s was plummeting like a rock before I did this. I updated to iOS7 at work during the day, and I was at 100% when I left work. It took me an hour and 15 minutes to get home, during that time all I did was listen to a podcast and play with the phone for about 10 minutes during the bus ride. When I got home I was at 43% battery life. After making the above changes my battery life is back to what it was before.

Early buyers of the iPhone 5S, which went on sale Friday morning, appear to be overwhelmingly choosing the gold-colored model over the two other color options.
Anecdotal reports from lines of shoppers outside Apple stores Friday also showed big demand for the gold-hued phones, which Apple is offering for the first time.

I've had that feature for over a year on my Nexus and S3. It's things like that keep me on Android.

Multipath TCP has only been an experimental standard since January, so this is unlikely. It is not part of Android (though there are some ports of it, but according to this not for the S3 nor the Nexus 4)
No skips or dropouts to streaming on any current device (maybe even iOS7, not sure how MPTCP is used in iOS7) is because of buffering and application intelligence, not because of an implementation of MPTCP is on the phone.

Watching those idiots on tv waiting days in lines for the iphone 5s and then coming out and dropping to their knees and crying is fricking embarrassing and hard to watch. People like this would make me ashamed of being an iphone owner.

Hmmmm looks like the A7 cpu is made by samsung.....
http://www.zdnet.com/a7-processor-us...ng-7000020956/
Following the unveiling of Apple's new flagship iPhone 5s smartphone there was a great deal of speculation as to who would get the job of manufacturing the silicon. While Samsung has manufactured all existing iOS processors, the increasingly vitriolic patent was between the two companies led some to believe that the Cupertino giant would want to distance itself from the South Korean giant.
However, a teardown of the chip carried out by Chipwork in conjunction with iFixit shows that Samsung continues to be Apple's go-to company for processors.

I'm an iPhone owner. Watching those idiots on tv waiting days in lines for the iphone 5s and then coming out and dropping to their knees and crying is fricking hilarious and amusing to watch. They remind me of the kind of people who dress up in Klingon garb and debate the current trade policy between Kronos and Cardassia..while speaking Klingon the whole time. I both admire their dedication and wonder about their sanity at the same time. If thats what makes them happy then good on them for living the dream

Man you're hilarious. Apple's R&D makes a chip, gives it to a chip manufacturer and like clockwork you come in here suggesting Samsung should be taking the credit (yes, that's what you're doing)

See, here's the problem. I have an iPhone but I'm not on "Team Apple". I don't worry about how the actions of iPhone users reflect on me, nor do I derive self-worth over my choice of phone. That's why I can see the positive (and negative) of Android as well.
But the real problem with fanboyism isn't people loving their team, it's the constant need to denigrate the other side to make sure your team is victorious. And that's just as sad as the people genuflecting over a phone.

I know you're just trolling here but I'll bite anyway. You sell comic books. The people you're around. Many of the fans who buy your stuff. A lot are just as bad, if not worse, than the people who wait in line for iPhones. They wait for hours in lines just to hear some C list celebrity talk about a TV show that hasn't been on the air for decades. They buy ridiculous merchandise and dress up in costumes to attend shows that you support.
I'm a comic guy too, but before you call other people out on being fanatical about something, you should probably look at the world you live in and the fanaticism you support.

If I'm reading things right multipath TCP won't even be implemented in iOS the way you're describing (radio streaming). It will work with Apple services like Siri.
This is a neat feature but I haven't really run into this sort of problem yet and I'm a major streamer of media. As a guy with an unlimited data plan but with limited storage space with my Nexus 4 device (8GB) I'm a cloud guy and stream when I can. Usually when I'm headed out the door in the morning I'm still on Wifi and start my morning Podcast selection as I head out I'll usually pull own the Notification menu and select Wifi off. Never has my Podcast cut out when switching.
Now this is for obvious reasons, the App will cache some of the stream for circumstances like this. So while it's not multipath TCP it's being done another way, like how you're suggesting.
Though when implemented in other ways multipath TCP has a plethora of cool ways to be used but it's not there yet and it certainly isn't a reason to crow about "this is what I choose x etc". Just enjoy your new iPhone man, don't use really poor reasons to justify it to others. iOS and Apple have been good to your for years and that's why you stick. Even if they don't have the best OS now, you've been with them for a while and you still really enjoy their products and who knows, maybe they'll kick it into a 2nd gear and have the best mobile operating system again. That's why you stick with Apple, which is great but it's certainly not because of some obscure feature that isn't even being used the way you suggest.
re: Bertuzzied.... give it a break man. While I doubt you're the only one who cringes at the way Apple makes those kinds of customers (fanatics) feel like rock stars this probably isn't the thread for it.

hmmm but comic guys are the typical fanatics like you described. On the news they had like a 50 year old couple from Arkansas "praising the lord" when the doors opened and a 35 year old stockbroker-type guy in near tears when he got his gold iphone. hahaha.
Yeah sorry i put this in the wrong thread. It should have been in the iphone vs android thread.
I can't wait to open up my store today and make a 19 year old geek cry when i sell him a Dial E for Evil 3D Lenticular Cover for DC Villains month.
"Bow to the Comic Overlord beyotch!"

And it isn't like one side or another is ever "victorious". The denigration on both sides seems just to make people feel better about themselves/their choices/lives.
Reminds me of the "Gen Y Yuppie Unhappy" thread. Maybe the denigration of others lets people feel a little less unhappy about their own situation.

The sides people take on phones reminds me of some of the great rivalries...
Ford vs Chevy
Nintendo vs sega
Xbox vs playstation
And now...apple vs android
Think they are both great phones, but the accusations on both sides (iSheep and fandroid) are awesome. The world needed a great new rivalry to divide people.

Or it's the obvious and feeble attempts at trying to poop on others.
God, what a horrible way to live a life.
Anyhow, back on topic - I didn't realize they released day 1 in China as well yesterday. First time they've done that I believe?

No, the reason I bought the phone was it's been described as the best smartphone ever made. That was merely an example I wanted to share.
Enough with the endless criticism.

Haven't read a lot on this, and forgive me as I'm a pretty deep into a 40 of whisky but if you follow github and know how to add patches you can her this to work. Perhaps it is a buffering thing but if it don't skip I don't care why...
It took some hacking to do this and honestly see no benefit outside of having a higher data bill for it but it works.
Time lines are probably off as I have no idea how long I have had my nexus and S3.
Bottom line is my streaming doesn't skip or pause, don't care why as I'm sure 90% of the I just want a phone that works people do. It works.
